South East Melbourne Phoenix vs Sydney Kings NBL25 Round 20 Expert Tips

Top spot on the line on Sunday afternoon and I am giving South East Melbourne the sweep over Sydney in NBL26 in another entertainment explosion between the current top-two contenders for the chip.

An arthritis check will be needed for the scorekeeper at John Cain Arena after another battle between the Phoenix and the Kings that is expected to see over 200 points for the third straight game.

South East Melbourne hasn’t played defence all season but teams are rarely able to do anything about their shoot-first mentality and simply can’t keep up with their pace. Sydney started the season as one of the best defensive teams in the comp, but it appears of late that they have taken a page out of Josh King’s book and are going offence first during their 8-game win streak that started after a loss to the Phoenix.

This sets up for an explosion of offence on Sunday arvo, so strap yourselves in. Both matches between these two have had 207 points or more with Kendric Davis averaging 30.5 points and Nathan Sobey 29.5 points.

This match could certainly decide the number one seed in the playoffs but also potentially the MVP.

  • S.E.M have beaten Sydney in both matches this season.
  • The last 4 matches between S.E.M and Sydney have gone over the game total of 193.5 points.
  • 9 of the last 10 S.E.M matches have gone over 193.5 points, while the latest 4 Sydney matches have also gone over.
  • Both Nathan Sobey and Kendric Davis have scored 25+ points in each of their head-to-head matches this season.

South East Melbourne Phoenix Form & Team News

After a slow start against New Zealand the Phoenix turned it on in the second half doubling the scoring efficiency of the Breakers 62-31 after the main break. It was once again another clinical three-point night for S.E.M hitting at 35.1% from the perimeter, with both Nathan Sobey (21 points) and Ian Clark 23 points) finding their range for 3 threes and 20+ points for the night.

DJ Mitchell also had one of his better games of the season off the bench, playing 17:20 minutes and dropping 12 points along with 7 rebounds. Mitchell performance once again shows just how deep the Phoenix lineup is outsourcing the Breakers pine 62-32.

The Phoenix bench averages 33.5 points per game, the most of any team in the NBL while also having a +8.5 differential.

Sydney Kings Form & Team News

The Kings have had a week off since their 106-92 victory over Cairns last Sunday. Despite the eventual14-point margin it took until the fourth quarter for Sydney to shake the Taipans, down by four heading into the final term of the match after letting Cairns get out to a 17-point lead after the first quarter.

Kendric Davis made his claim once again as the league’s MVP having a complete game against the Taipans with 35 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal with just 1 turnover. The NBA hopeful has now averaged 27.16 points over his last 6 matches with a career-high of 40 points against Tasmania.

The Kings have now won 7 straight matches, but the concern for Brian Gorjian is they have been relying heavily on their offence, giving up 100+ points to their opposition in their last 3 matches.
