Rockhampton Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 2 Intrepid Lad

Returning from a spell with an impressive two-length victory over 1400m here in May, Intrepid Lad made an immediate impact first-up.

Contesting a Benchmark 0-55 handicap, the gelding delivered a dominant performance after jumping from barrier seven that day.

While beaten as favourite at this track subsequently, the son of Zousain still produced a solid effort when stepping up to a Benchmark 62 contest.

Racing over this distance, he finished sixth of 10, and the drop back in grade looks a significant advantage. The strength of that latest form has since been enhanced, with two runners from the race winning subsequently, including the third placegetter at Ipswich last week.

The four-year-old boasts winning form on wet tracks, having broken his maiden on a Soft 6 surface here in November, and Ricky Vale's representative looks capable of returning to winning ways.

Rockhampton Value Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Humble Hero

A proven performer at this venue, Humble Hero has recorded two wins from just three starts at Rockhampton.

The latest of those victories came in a Class 1 contest over 1200m three starts ago, where he finished just under half a length clear of his nearest rival on a Good track.

Darryl Johnston's gelding followed that success by completing a winning double over the same trip at Thangool before finishing runner-up over 1200m at Mackay last start.

Forecast wet conditions are another positive, with the four-year-old having finished in the top three in all five previous starts on rain-affected ground.

Natalea Summers has partnered the son of Akeed Mofeed at each of his five runs this preparation, and he looks capable of defying top weight to record his fourth victory of the campaign.

Rockhampton Best Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Jam Packed

All four of Jam Packed's starts this preparation have come at the Sunshine Coast, where she has continued to race consistently.

Those performances have produced two victories, including a Benchmark 62 success over 1600m on her penultimate outing.

Racing on a Soft 7 surface that day, the mare settled on the speed before drawing more than a length clear of her rivals.

She has shown tactical versatility throughout her career, however, with her maiden victory in April coming after being ridden patiently in a 16-runner field. That adaptability could prove valuable from barrier nine.

Her latest Heavy-track effort is easily forgiven after over-racing at this distance, and with Aidan Holt taking the ride for the first time, the daughter of Saxon Warrior is selected to make a winning start at this venue.

One Syndications Rockhampton Newmarket Tips (Race 7)

Rockhampton Value Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Ouroboros

Arriving in strong form, Ouroboros has placed in three of his four starts this preparation and looks well suited in the feature.

The gelding was beaten just over half a length when finishing second over 1350m at Ipswich on June 20.

Competing in a Class 6 handicap, he dictated the pace before being reeled in late in an 11-runner contest, with the Soft 5 conditions appearing to suit.

A wide draw is not ideal, but he shapes as the likely leader and has shown enough early speed in the past to overcome the awkward barrier.

Matthew Hoysted has scratched the five-year-old from a couple of recent engagements to target this race, and he is selected to take out the Rockhampton Newmarket.
