The Melbourne Demons are set to face the North Melbourne Kangaroos in Round 18 of AFL 2025, looking to overcome a five-game losing streak. Previously defeated by the Kangaroos by 59 points in Round 2, the Demons will rely on star players like Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca to secure a narrow victory. Injuries have plagued the Kangaroos recently, resulting in significant defensive vulnerabilities. Melbourne can avenge their shock Round 2 defeat when they face North Melbourne in Round 18.

The Demons will be out to arrest a five-game losing streak and were stunned by North Melbourne earlier this season, conceding eight final-quarter goals to go down by 59-points.

Last weekend, it was a 13-point loss to 3rd placed Adelaide, in Adelaide. Three of their past four matches have been against top eight opponents.

The Kangaroos have shown promise in the last couple of months but injuries have taken a toll in recent weeks and they have conceded a massive 284 points in their past two matches, coming off a 49-point loss to the Western Bulldogs last weekend, raising concerns ahead of this Marvel Stadium encounter.

Melbourne have had scoring woes of their own but remain a top-four team in contested ball and centre clearances.

They will lean on the midfield strength of Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca—who’ve both enjoyed strong records against North—while Jake Melksham (9 goals in 2 games) and Kozzie Pickett (20 goals in 9) shape as key threats up forward.

Take the Demons in the 1–39 point bracket, with Petracca looking good for 25+. Consider Colby McKercher and Cam Zurhaar in player props for the Kangas.

  • Melbourne have won six of the past seven against North Melbourne.
  • Christian Petracca has averaged 28 disposals in his past four games against the Demons.
  • Cam Zurhaar booted four goals the last time these two sides met.
  • Colby Mckercher is averaging 31.4 disposals in the past five rounds

Head to Head

North Melbourne were big winners over Melbourne back in Round 2, kicking eight goals in the last quarter to win by 59 points. Cam Zurhaar kicked four goals, while Paul Curtis and Nick Larkey kicked three apiece.

Melbourne won six straight prior to that. Clayton Oliver has averaged 29 disposals from his past three matches against North, while Christian Petracca has averaged 28. Cam Zurhaar has kicked 11 goals for the Kangaroos from his past three matches against the Demons.

Melbourne have lost their five four matches. They have cost themselves in a number of those with inaccuracy and lapses at different stages during games.

The Demons have been a strong centre clearance and contested possession side and rank in the top four in these measures over the past five rounds, seizing the opportunities provided by Max Gawn.

But around the ground there is a drop off in the clearance battle and they rank just 11th for inside 50s and 15th for scoring in that period.

Jake Melksham kicked four goals last weekend, while Kozzie Pickett and Jacob van Rooyen chimed in with two apiece. Pickett has kicked 20 from his past nine matches. Melksham has kicked nine from his past two. Christian Petracca has had 25+ disposals in seven of his past 10 matches. He had 23 last weekend.
