Paula Badosa vs Mayar Sherif WTA Iasi Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Paula Badosa and Mayar Sherif square off for the Iasi Open title on Monday after rain postponed the final.

Both Badosa and Sherif are aiming to win their first WTA title since 2024 after brilliant runs to the final over the last week. Badosa is obviously the more accomplished of the pair, but the former World No. 2 has been struck down by various injury problems over the last few years, dropping out of the top 100 as a result.

You never know when Badosa's body could break down, but the Spaniard has seemingly been operating at full fitness again over the last couple of weeks, bringing a nine-match winning streak into this contest after also taking the WTA 125 title in Bastad.

Meanwhile, Sherif is also soaring with confidence, bringing her own nine-match winning run into this encounter after capturing the WTA 125 Contrexeville silverware.

It sets up what should be a close contest in the Iasi final. Sherif is absolutely at her best on clay and has actually won her last 14 matches on the surface. The Egyptian will fight for every point, but I just think in a final and healthy, Badosa has the edge in just about every department. It won't be easy - Badosa has fought tooth and nail over her last few matches - but I'm backing the Spaniard to edge this in three and extend her perfect record in WTA finals to five.
  • Badosa has failed to cover a -3.5 line in her last three matches
  • Two of Badosa's last three wins have come in three sets
  • Sherif has won her last 14 matches on clay
  • Badosa has won her last nine matches on clay
  • Badosa is 4-0 in WTA finals, winning the last three in three sets

Badosa vs Sherif Head To Head

Badosa leads 1-0, winning their only previous clash on the clay of Charleston in 2023 in straight sets.

Paula Badosa Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 12-14
  • WTA Iasi Record: 4-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 115
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (2022)

It's been a tough last few years for Badosa, who struggles with a chronic back injury and has dropped out of the top 100 as a result.

Badosa had won just eight matches at tour-level before arriving in Iasi, but there's been signs lately that she's getting back to some good fitness and form.

The Spaniard beat Coco Gauff on her way to the Berlin quarter-finals before going down in a close three-setter at Wimbledon to Emma Navarro.

Badosa got back on the clay and hasn't lost, winning the Bastad title last week before advancing into the Iasi final. The 28-year-old beat seeded players Anhelina Kalinina and Panna Udwardy in straight sets and needed a decider to edge past Alevtina Ibragimova and Tamara Zidansek, beating the latter 3-6 7-5 7-6(1) in the semi-finals.

Mayar Sherif Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 9-6
  • WTA Iasi Record: 4-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 97
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 31 (2023)

Sherif has mainly played on the lower tours throughout 2026 - in fact, this week is the first time all season that she's won back-to-back main draw matches at tour-level.

Qualifying and making the second round of Roland Garros, along with securing two WTA 125 titles in Brescia and Contrexeville, has propelled Sherif back into the world's top 100 and her run to the final in Iasi will see her climb back into the top 75.

The Egyptian arrived in Iasi following that title triumph in Contrexeville and having won her last 14 matches on clay.

Sherif has only dropped one set on her way to the final, beating Dalma Galfi, Kaitlin Quevedo and Oleksandra Oliynykova in straights and edging out Yulia Putintseva in a third-set tiebreak.
