Elina Svitolina faces Ekaterina Alexandrova in the WTA Toronto quarter-final. While Svitolina leads their head-to-head and enjoys a strong season, she hasn't won her last four quarter-finals and is recovering from a hip injury. Alexandrova, after a tough year, is in resurgent form, most recently defeating World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka. With strong stats in top-tier matches and a powerful game, Alexandrova is recommended as a good value bet for an upset and to win at least one set.

Elina Svitolina vs Ekaterina Alexandrova WTA Toronto Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Elina Svitolina has lost her last four quarter-finals and still isn't operating at the form she was at the start of the year. Ekaterina Alexandrova has 21 victories over top 10 players and is coming off a brilliant performance to dispatch World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka - she's worth taking for the upset in Monday night's Canadian Open quarter-final in Toronto.

It's been a rough season overall for Alexandrova, but she's always been a streaky player and I think she can back up her huge win over Sabalenka from the R16.

Those 21 top 10 scalps are no accident - Alexandrova's powerful groundstrokes can dominate any player on tour when she's firing on all cylinders and Svitolina isn't someone who is going to match her from the back of the court as far as brute force is concerned. In short, Alexandrova has this match on her racquet and if she can reproduce the level from her Sabalenka triumph, then there's no reason why can't advance into the semi-finals.

Alexandrova also has a solid 3-2 record in WTA 1000 quarter-finals, so she knows what it takes at this stage of big tournaments.

Svitolina was one of the standout players on tour for the better part of six months, but she suffered a hip injury during the grass swing and she's not yet got back to that level. The Ukrainian had a good win over and out-of-form Amanda Anisimova in the R16, but she stumbled towards the end, failing to close out the second set at 5-1 and wasting four match points before steadying to secure the 6-1 6-4 victory.

Of course Svitolina deserves favouritism, but Alexandrova has proven how dangerous she can be when in this sort of form and I think the Russian is worth a punt for the upset and a main play of winning 1+ set.
  • Svitolina is 0-4 in her last four quarter-final matches
  • Svitolina's last two defeats vs top 20 players were in three sets
  • Alexandrova has won 1+ set in nine of her last 10 matches
  • Alexandrova has won 14 of her last 19 quarter-final matches
  • Alexandrova has a 3-2 record in WTA 1000 quarter-finals
  • Alexandrova has a 21-41 record vs top 10 players, winning her last two

Svitolina vs Alexandrova Head To Head

Svitolina leads 3-1, but they haven't played in five years, with Alexandrova winning the most-recent.

Elina Svitolina Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 40-11
  • WTA Canada Record: 19-8
  • Current Ranking: No. 9
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 3 (2017)

Svitolina has enjoyed another outstanding season, producing the consistency that has propelled her back into the world's top 10. The Ukrainian has been one of the steadiest performers on the WTA Tour, regularly making deep runs at the biggest events.

Earlier in the season, Svitolina claimed the Auckland title, reached the semi-finals of both the Australian Open and Indian Wells, and finished runner-up in Dubai. She also excelled on clay, capturing the WTA 1000 title in Rome before advancing to the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.

However, a hip injury sustained during the grass swing stalled her momentum, with Svitolina losing in the first round of Wimbledon before going out in the second round of Washington on her return to hardcourt.

The 31-year-old has bounced back to some good form in Toronto, where she won the title back in 2017. After overcoming Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in three sets in her opener, Svitolina produced dominant 6-1 6-1 and 6-2 6-4 victories over Anastasia Potapova and Amanda Anisimova to make the quarter-finals.

Ekaterina Alexandrova Form Analysis

  • WTA 2026 Record: 14-18
  • WTA Canada Record: 6-3
  • Current Ranking: No. 19
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 10 (Oct 2025)

It's been a much-needed run for Alexandrova, who arrived in Toronto with just 11 tour-level wins for the season.

Three of those came at the start of the year when Alexandrova made the final of Abu Dhabi and sensationally, she didn't win back-to-back matches again until the grass swing.

However, the 31-year-old has now recaptured her best tennis after a quarter-final in Bad Homburg and third round at Wimbledon.

Alexandrova battled past Camila Osario and Talia Gibson in Toronto before producing her best performance of the season, conquering Aryna Sabalenka 7-6(3) 4-6 6-4 for her third career win over a World No. 1.
