It'll be the Wanderers' first hit out of the new campaign after finishing last season's A-League in fourth spot and suffering an elimination final exit to Melbourne Victory. The Wanderers have never advanced to the final of the Australia Cup, with two semi-final finishes their previous best performances, while Peninsula will be making their fifth appearance in the final rounds, with their highlight being a quarter-final run in 2022.
Of course, the Wanderers should be advancing here, but it won't be easy. Peninsula are right in the thick of their Queensland NPL season, where they are currently in third spot on the ladder, going unbeaten in 13 of their 17 fixtures. Peninsula banged in the goals in qualifying for the Australia Cup R32 and the Wanderers have a tendency to leak goals on the road, so in their first game of the season, they could be vulnerable at the back. My best bet for this game is the Wanderers to win, with both teams finding the back of the net.

Peninsula Power Form
Peninsula are no strangers to this stage of the Australia Cup and will be hoping to go one step further than last season, where they were knocked out in the R32 by Wellington Phoenix.
Coached by the experienced Aaron Philp, the Power were dominant in qualifying for the Australia Cup R32, scoring 21 goals in four matches.
After opening with a 4-1 victory over Logan Metro, Peninsula absolutely obliterated Brisbane Knights 11-2 before conquering Queensland Lions 3-1, who are currently one place above them on the QLD NPL ladder in second.
Peninsula are unbeaten in their last five NPL games coming into this clash, but they've drawn their last two against Gold Coast Knights (0-0) and Wynnum Wolves (1-1).
As mentioned, the Power's best Australia Cup result was a quarter-final run in 2022 - however, they didn't have to face an A-League side, beating NWS Spirit and Green Gully before going down to Sydney United, who ended up making the final that year.
Western Sydney Wanderers Form
Not much form to go on for the Wanderers as they prepare for their first competitive game of the new season.
It was a solid A-League season for the Wanderers as they finished in fourth spot on the ladder, but a 2-1 defeat to Melbourne Victory in the elimination finals was a disappointing ending.
The Wanderers have made moves to strengthen their squad in the off-season and new signings including experienced forward Kosta Barbarouses, striker Alou Koul, defensive midfielder Steven Ugarkovic and defender Phillip Cancar could feature in this clash.
Throw in the likes of goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas, midfield star Josh Brillante and attacking duo Brandon Borrello and Bozhidar Kraev and the Wanderers should have too much firepower for their NPL opponents here.
The Wanderers will be hoping to break new ground in the Australia Cup this season and improve on their two previous semi-final finishes.
Western Sydney are no strangers to facing Queensland NPL sides, defeating Brisbane City 2-1 and Queensland Lions to make the Australia Cup quarter-finals last season, before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Adelaide United in extra-time.
Verdict
The Wanderers are the superior side and should have enough quality to advance, but this will be their first game of the new season and they might be vulnerable at the back to a Peninsula side who scored 21 goals in four games to reach this stage of the competition.
