Last year's runners-up Melbourne Victory launch their 2025 Australia Cup campaign with a potentially tricky R32 encounter with Olympic Kingsway on Tuesday night in Western Australia.

Victory have suffered some heartbreak over the last 12 months, losing both the 2024 Australia Cup final to Macarthur and the A-League Grand Final against bitter rivals Melbourne City. Two-time Australia Cup winners, Victory will need to be on guard as they make the trip across the country to face an Olympic Kingsway side who proved last year they need to be taken seriously.

Indeed, Kingsway pushed Adelaide United all the way in the R16, eventually succumbing 3-2. Currently flying high near the top of the NPL WA ladder, Kingsway have scored 43 goals in just 18 games and will be confident of finding the back of the net against A-League opposition again at home in this competition. Victory should have too much class, but Kingsway can make life difficult for them.

This is the first ever meeting between the two teams.

Kingsway have won eight of their last 10 games in the NPL WA to surge into second spot on the ladder coming into this clash.

The goals have been flowing, with Kingsway scoring nine in their last three outings - including a most-recent 3-2 triumph over competition leaders Bayswater City this past weekend. That was Bayswater's first loss of the season.

Kingsway now head into this encounter with their confidence sky-high - they advanced into the R16 last year, defeating Edgeworth Eagles 4-1 before pushing Adelaide in a 3-2 loss.

Melbourne Victory Form

Victory advanced to the A-League Grand Final last season, but it all ended in misery as they were crushed 3-0 by rivals Melbourne City.

Nevertheless, it was still a good season for Victory, who had to deal with the sudden departure of manager Patrick Kisnorbo, with Arthur Diles taking charge and guiding the team to the GF.

You can never take much from pre-season friendlies, but Victory haven't been that flash over the last fortnight or so, losing 3-0 to English Championships side Wrexham before a 1-1 draw with Caroline Springs George Cross, with Keegan Jelacic scoring the equaliser in the second half.

Kingsway are flying in the NPL WA and pushed Adelaide in a 3-2 defeat in the R16 of the Australia Cup last year - they can make an impact again here, but Victory should prove too strong.
