It was a brilliant inaugural season in the A-League for Auckland FC, with the team winning the minor premiership on the back of some strong defence, which saw them conceded just 27 goals in 26 games. Now, Auckland will be aiming for a victorious opening game in the Australia Cup as they look to add more silverware to their trophy cabinet. Gold Coast meanwhile are currently fourth in the Queensland NPL and will be hoping to replicate their 2023 Australia Cup campaign, where they advanced to the R16.
Auckland are obviously the far superior side here and I'll back Steve Corica's side to get themselves up for this one. Auckland were extremely strong defensively last season, so the visitors to win this game to nil is the best bet for Tuesday night's showdown.

Gold Coast Knights Form
The Knights are right in the thick of their Queensland NPL season, sitting in fourth spot on the ladder after 18 games.
It's a tight competition, with Gold Coast only four points ahead of eighth. The Knights were on a three-game losing run earlier this month, but they've steadied the ship with a current four-game unbeaten run, including a 1-0 victory over Olympic FC this past weekend.
Gold Coast failed to reach the Australia Cup R32 last year, but did progress to the R16 in 2023 after beating Devonport City Strikers before a 2-0 loss to Western United.
Auckland FC Form
Auckland won 15 of their 26 regular season games in their debut A-League campaign, winning the minor premiership by five points over Melbourne City.
However, Auckland couldn't do the double, suffering elimination in the finals by Melbourne Victory, winning the first leg 1-0 before suffering a 2-0 loss at home with the Grand Final within touching distance.
Auckland kicked off their 2025/26 campaign with a 5-0 win over West Coast Rangers last week. Logan Rogerson opened the scoring and Jesse Randall bagged himself a double.
Verdict
Auckland are favourites to progress and they can keep a clean sheet in the process.
