Newcastle Jets will be confident of making the Australia Cup quarter-finals for just the second time when they face Cooks Hill United at Newcastle Sports Ground on Wednesday night.

The Jets' only previous appearance in the quarter-finals came back in 2019, where they also faced a Northern NSW Premier League side in the R16, defeating Edgeworth 5-1 before going down to Adelaide. Newcastle got some sort of revenge for that loss a couple of weeks ago, defeating Adelaide 2-1 to reach the R16. The Jets have been dealt an extremely kind draw, with Macarthur the only A-League side they could potentially face before the final.
Meanwhile, Cooks Hill have become just the third team from the Northern NSW NPL to reach the Australia Cup R16 after stunning Adelaide Croatia 3-2 in the previous round. It was a famous victory for the club, who only got promoted to the Northern NSW NPL back in 2022, but their run almost certainly ends here. Cooks Hill (who are $101 to win with Dabble) are languishing in 9th spot in the league and should be thoroughly outclassed by the Jets here. Backing Over 3.5 goals for the best bet.

It's actually been a poor season for Cooks Hill in the Northern NSW NPL, with the side sitting in ninth spot on the ladder, winning just seven of their 22 games.
Cooks Hill come into this clash having lost three of their last four outings, including a 4-2 and 3-0 defeats to Broadmeadow and Maitland in their most-recent two.
However, Cooks Hill showed their league form doesn't necessarily translate to cup competition after they toppled Adelaide Croatia 3-2 in the R32 for their first Australia Cup win.
Xavier Williams scored a second-half double after Josh Benson had drawn Cooks Hill level earlier via the penalty spot.
Newcastle Jets Form
The Jets have traditionally struggled in the Australia Cup, making the quarter-finals just once since the competition began in 2014.
However, Newcastle have a golden opportunity to make it all the way to the final of this year's tournament, with the draw doing them a big favour - firstly, with this R16 clash and the fact Macarthur is the only A-League side they could play in the quarters or semis.
It was looking like another early elimination for the Jets after they went down 1-0 early to Adelaide in the R32, but goals to Ben Gibson and Alex Badolato handed the side a 2-1 triumph in what was also Mark Milligan's first competitive game as coach.
Verdict
Not much value to be found here, as expected.
The goals should flow though, so Over 3.5 goals looks decent value as the Jets coast through to the last eight.
