Brisbane Broncos vs Wests Tigers NRL Tips - Tigers tipped to cover as large underdogs
In the NRL Round 5 clash of 2025, the Brisbane Broncos are predicted to extend their winning streak against the Wests Tigers. Despite the absence of Jarome Luai, the Broncos are expected to triumph by a margin of 4-6 points. The Tigers, however, are anticipated to cover the spread as underdogs, given their recent against-the-spread performance. Brisbane's strong forward performance, notably by Payne Haas, plays a central role in their dominance. Jack Gosiewski is highlighted as a potential tryscorer. Expect a close contest with strategic defensive plays from both teams.

- Brisbane Broncos vs Wests Tigers NRL 2025 Round 5 FAQ’s
Whilst the Tigers own the better head to head record across the last 6 seasons it is the Broncos that have had the success in the two most recent games. With Jarome Luai out of the team suspended I can see Wests struggling to have enough attacking power to outscore the rampaging Broncos but will do enough to keep it close.
Brisbane rank 5th in Run Metres so far this season averaging 1443 per game with Payne Haas being a large contributor to that number. Last week the majority of their tries came off the back of barnstorming runs up the middle which allowed the halves and outside backs to attack fatigued defenders.
Wests showed in their loss to the Warriors last week that their middle defence is vulnerable with at least two opposition tries coming from yawning gaps near the ruck. They will no doubt be looking to close those gaps against one of the best forward packs in the league so I am expecting less of an advantage in that area.
Our predictive modelling has the Broncos winning by 4-6 pts, even without Luai it's hard seeing this balloon out to 3 converted tries. Take the Tigers to cover, Broncos to go Under their team total while Jack Gosiewski is a good pick for tryscorer.
- The Tigers are 3-1 ATS this season and covered in 4 of 5 games last season as underdogs of 12.5 pts or more.
- Wests have allowed an average of only 15 pts per game to their opponents this season, the 2nd best number in the NRL.
- 3 of 5 tries against the Tigers last weekend came from tired middle/edge defence.
- Jack Gosiewski has scored 3 tries in his last 3 games against Wests and scored the first try in Round 3 vs the Cowboys this year.
Head to Head
The Broncos have won the last 2 straight against the Tigers but had lost 4 in a row prior dating back to the start of the 2019 season. 3 of the 4 victories by the Tigers in that period have come at Suncorp Stadium.
The Over has hit in 4 of 6 matchups with the lone game last year going Under. The winning margin has been 13+ in 5 straight years.

The Broncos looked in control from start to finish in their matchup against the Dolphins last weekend where they ran out victors 20-12. Hey had strong goal line defence early, rejecting multiple attempts from the Dolphins to score.
Brisbane had just 9 tackles all game in their opposition 20m zone. The first of their 4 tries being long range and the other 3 all coming from the first tackle in the 20m area following barnstorming charges up the field.
Payne Haas had 153 Run Metres to go with 38 tackles, the best numbers by any forward on the night while Gehamat Shibasaki continued his stunning return to top flight footy with 176 metres and 2 tries.

The Tigers lost a very winnable game against the Warriors last weekend in slippery conditions at Campbelltown Stadium. Poor middle defence gifted their opponents at least two tries with the forwards strolling in almost untouched to the in-goal.
To finish things off a penalty for a high shot was the ultimate decider with the Warriors landing a penalty goal with 8 minutes remaining to seal the win. The Tigers tried valiantly to get more points on the board in the last few minutes but once again were their own worst enemy with crucial mistakes handing the ball over to their opponent.
Wests did well to score the points they did with only 33% of Territory in the game, 1228 run metres and just 17 tackles inside their opponents 20m zone.
