Kansas City Chiefs vs Los Angeles Chargers Frequently Asked Questions

They have won 7 straight games over the LA Chargers and while there is a lot of speculation surrounding the improvements the Chiefs have made in the off-season, before seeing it with my own eyes - I need to back the Bolts as the underdog.

Since 2009 the divisional underdog is an astonishing 23-6 ATS in week 1. Since 2012 that success rate improves to 18-4 and from 2018 until 2024 the number is 10-2!! The trend is your friend until it has run its course.

There is a lot of talk about whether the Mahomes Magic is gone, whether Kelce can get back to his athletic self and whether teams have figured out the defence. All of these questions will be answered in week 1.

The Chargers are a strong Rush team and have added two new standouts to that offence. The receiving core has also got a boost with Keenan Allen returning which gives coach Harbaugh and QB Herbert a bunch of options to throw at the Chiefs D.

This game will no doubt finish close and could come down to one score. Back the trend and take the Bolts +3. Tyler Conklin was an overachiever at the Jets last season, back him in for over 1.5 receptions and Najee Harris to go Over his 6.5 total rush attempts

Divisional Underdogs are 10-2 ATS since 2018, Justin Herbert is 3-1 as a starter in Week 1.
Tyler Conklin averaged 3.2 receptions on 4.5 targets last season for the Jets with an average of 8 yds per reception.
Najee Harris averaged 15 Rush Attempts over his last 2 seasons at the Steelers.
LA Chargers were the 11th ranked Rush Offence last season.

Kansas City Chiefs Form

The Chiefs made their 3rd straight Super Bowl in February but were soundly beaten by the Philadelphia Eagles. They now set out to take revenge on a league that is casting a big shadow of doubt over the team with the question being - are they past their prime?

All reports say that the air game will be rejuvenated this season and that Travis Kelce has been in the gym to make up for a lacklustre 2024.

They will be without Rashee Rice to start the season but Xavier Worthy did a fantastic job in his absence last season, fans will be eager to see the development through the off-season.

Los Angeles Chargers Form

The Chargers finished 2nd in the AFC West to the Chiefs last season with an 11-6 record. They were then bundled out in the first round by the Houston Texans 32-12 in the Wild Card Round.

LA were a run heavy team, ranking 11th in Rush attack and way down in 28th for passing. They have added some more pieces including Najee Harris who was battling an eye injury in the pre-season but is set to play in this one.

Keenan Allen has also returned to the Chargers and will bolster a receiving core that started to find their feet in 2024. Together with Ladd McConkey they deliver and explosive threat with QB Herbert.
