The Wednesday, September 2 Warwick Farm race meet features seven races on a Good 4 track. Key tips include Appeared as the best bet in Race 3, Mazis each-way in Race 4, Sea Admiral offering value in Race 7, and Sumac as a roughie in Race 2. These selections are based on strong jockey and stable form, solid recent performances, and favorable barriers. Appeared stands out for stepping up in distance, and each selection offers genuine claims, especially at each-way odds or value prices.

Warwick Farm Roughie - Race 2 No. 14 Sumac

Talented young jockey Zac Lloyd enjoyed an excellent winter, riding 41 winners from the start of June through to the end of August at a strike-rate of 24.85%, while his recent form includes a Gosford double last Friday and a Rosehill treble on Saturday.

He was aboard Sumac for her most recent appearance, a competitive seventh-of-12 in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes that rounded out her first preparation.

The Curtis-trained filly had also produced two good efforts without much luck beforehand, including a fifth-of-13 in the Group 3 Baillieu over 1400m and a badly held-up run in the Fernhill Stakes over a mile when respected in the market.

Seven furlongs first-up is never straightforward, but she was clearly looking for this distance after beginning her career over shorter trips and has completed two August trials, including a solid 1320m hit-out at Rosehill.

This is a strong maiden, but Sumac showed enough in good company as a juvenile to suggest black-type races could again be on the agenda and a big each-way price is available fresh.

Warwick Farm Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Appeared

A well-judged Dylan Gibbons ride helped Appeared make a winning Australian debut over 1880m at Newcastle on August 13, with the import able to track the favourite throughout before proving too classy late.

The Bjorn Baker-trained gelding was stepping out over a trip short of his best that day, yet still won a provincial Class 1 that has already produced a subsequent winner, while Proxima Centauri finished just over two lengths behind and is among the leading market chances here.

This BM72 lacks depth and Appeared looks one of the few runners in the field with genuine upside, although respect is given to Forbidden Riff after he had excuses in a Saturday BM78 last time.

The son of Justify should be even better suited stepping to 2200m, having already won over 2414m in Ireland before arriving in Australia.

With a strong platform underneath him and several rivals appearing close to their ceilings, Appeared looks capable of progressing again and only needs to hold his form to be hard to beat.

Warwick Farm Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 1

Consistency has been a feature of Mazis throughout his career for the Archibald stable, with his only major failure coming in last year's Group 3 Rough Habit Plate on Heavy ground.

He bounced back from that defeat with a Doomben victory on June 5 before a break, while his previous spring campaign produced two wins from three starts, including a Class 3 success at Eagle Farm.

The son of American Pharoah resumed over 1400m at Warwick Farm on August 19 and produced a good effort without much luck, settling off the speed before being forced into a wide and early move when third behind Mr Miller.

That form has already been strengthened, with Mr Miller subsequently winning a BM78 comfortably at Rosehill last Saturday, while Mazis now steps into a BM72 with less depth and gets the benefit of a run under his belt.

The wide draw remains the main query, but Braith Nock's 1.5kg claim helps and Mazis has enough tactical options over the longer trip to rate as an each-way chance.

Warwick Farm Value Bet - Race 7 No. 4 Sea Admiral

John Thompson enjoyed a strong August with six winners and six placegetters from 28 starters, and he saddles up the resuming Sea Admiral in the finale.

The four-year-old moved well when narrowly winning a 740m Randwick trial on August 14 in the fastest heat of the morning, while his Midway failure in February can be forgiven after he pulled up lame and was subsequently spelled.

His form before that setback was strong, with first and third-up victories either side of a second-up effort at Gosford where a wide draw worked against him.

Sea Admiral has shown from inside barriers that he can settle handy and perform, including a fresh win over this distance on December 14, while his previous winter return victory was also recorded over the same trip.

With two wins from three first-up attempts, both over this journey, and barrier one giving Alysha Collett every chance to secure the box seat, Sea Admiral has some appeal at a double-figure quote.
