Ipswich Tips September 2

Gordon’s Gin Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)

Ipswich Value Bet - Race 1 No. 2 Fidardo

A much-improved first-up effort at the Sunshine Coast last month suggests Fidardo is getting close to a breakthrough.

The gelding had finished eighth over 1350m at Doomben at his only start as a three-year-old, but he drew wide that day and had shown ability in his trials beforehand.

His return was much more encouraging, with the son of Castelvecchio beaten less than half a length in a 13-runner field under Adam Sewell, who retains the ride here.

Both race-day appearances have come from wide barriers, so the kinder draw is a positive, while the drop in distance should not pose any issue.

Gary Duncan's lightly raced gelding remains open to improvement and looks capable of breaking through at start three at a value price.

Gibson Architects Benchmark 65 Handicap - Base Rating 55 Tips (Race 3)

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Certified Copy

Two strong performances this preparation have Certified Copy in good shape heading into this Benchmark 65.

The four-year-old resumed with a narrow Benchmark 70 victory at Rockhampton in July, tracking the speed before fighting strongly between runners over 1200m.

He then headed to Coffs Harbour and again performed well, finishing second and beaten less than a length over the same distance.

Both runs came on Soft ground, so the expected conditions here are firmly in his favour.

Jai Williams reunites with Certified Copy for the first time since the pair combined to win at the Gold Coast in June last year, and they look well placed to strike again.

The Industry School Class 1 Plate 3yo & Up Tips (Race 5)

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 1 Deep Focus

Deep Focus brings form from much stronger company into this Class 1 after showing ability in Group races as a three-year-old.

The gelding finished sixth in the Group 1 Queensland Derby over 2400m at Eagle Farm in June last year and has made only two starts since.

His latest appearance came at Doomben just under a year ago, where he finished seventh over 1630m in Benchmark 78 company and was beaten just over three lengths on Soft ground.

A recent Gold Coast barrier trial should have him forward enough for his return, while the forecast conditions are no concern based on his previous wet-track form.

The five-year-old has clearly had his issues, but from an inside draw and dropping sharply to Class 1 level, he looks capable of making a winning return for Paul Shailer.

Fouchard Racing Fillies and Mares Class 2 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Ipswich Roughie - Race 7 No. 5 Saveur

Back against her own sex and with a run under the belt, Saveur looks capable of improving at a bigger price.

The four-year-old resumed over this track and trip last month and produced a solid fifth in Benchmark 65 company after being ridden with restraint from barrier four.

She finished just over one-and-a-half lengths from the winner and should take natural improvement from that first-up effort.

Her previous preparation featured consecutive wins at the Gold Coast and Doomben, while she again draws barrier four and has placed on Soft ground in the past.

With conditions suitable and added fitness on her side, Saveur looks capable of running a big race at odds.
