Sandown Roughie - Race 4 No. 1 Castle On High

While never in winning contention after being dragged back from a wide draw, Castle On High still produced a pass-mark performance via his June 20 resumption.

That BM84 was comfortably won by the flying Ten Commandments on a Soft 7 track, with the five-year-old recording the second-fastest final 200m of the race.

Not only does he drop sharply in grade to BM70 company on Wednesday, but he also draws much kinder, giving him the opportunity to settle much closer.

There were excuses for his Hamilton flop in the spring, with cardiac arrhythmia detected, while prior to that he was in consistent touch through winter.

Castle On High won first and second-up on rain-affected ground before a Saturday BM84 runner-up at Caulfield, while he also defeated the smart Revelare first-up in December 2024, a galloper who later won at Group 3 level.

Sandown Value Bet - Race 5 No. 13 Pinot For Mike

The Hayes-trained filly was spelled after breaking through at Geelong on her second start in December and has had little luck in three runs this campaign.

She resumed at Sale with a brave fifth after covering ground before again settling well back from a wide draw when third at Swan Hill.

Her best effort this preparation came at Bendigo on June 25, where she was again disadvantaged from a wide alley in a slowly run race.

Despite the tempo, Pinot For Mike produced the fastest final 600m and 400m of the entire program, highlighting the merit of the performance.

This looks a suitable metropolitan placement, with the filly back against her own age, dropping 5kg in the weights and drawing much kinder.

Evergreen Turf Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Sandown Best Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Tennessee Bound

Aiming to extend her unbeaten record to five is Tennessee Bound, with Ciaron Maher placing the mare superbly through the grades.

The four-year-old opened her career with wins at Kyneton and Cranbourne before adding a metropolitan victory at Caulfield Heath on November 19.

She resumed over 1000m on June 17, the shortest trip she's tackled, and proved far too classy for BM70 opposition.

Although up in the weights again, Tennessee Bound retains the services of talented 3kg claiming apprentice Jabez Johnstone, who is striking at almost 26% for the Ciaron Maher stable this season.

She is yet to race on Heavy ground, but there's a chance of an upgrade, and she did get through a Soft 6 in her most recent return victory.

Sandown Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 17 Mahershala

Mahershala was his own worst enemy on debut at Pakenham in February, beginning awkwardly before being restrained to the rear of the field.

Despite doing plenty wrong and hanging under pressure, he was beaten only three-quarters of a length, prompting Ciaron Maher to send him for a spell.

The son of Per Incanto returned at Seymour on June 11 and justified a very short quote with a dominant maiden victory, where he wasn't fully extended.

He has since worked well in a quiet Cranbourne jump-out, with the Soft 7 conditions for that maiden success potentially proving the key.

Only at start three and in just his second preparation, Mahershala still has plenty of upside and looks capable of taking the next step.
