Morphettville Tips July 8

The Junction Maiden Plate Tips (Race 3)

Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 4 Mr Vexatious

A promising debut at Gawler suggested Mr Vexatious won't remain a maiden for long.

Racing over 1200m, the gelding finished a creditable third, beaten just over two lengths after starting at $41 in an 11-runner field.

He again tackled stronger company in a $105,000 Plate at Murray Bridge, where he was outclassed after jumping at triple-figure odds, although the return to maiden grade is a clear positive.

An inside barrier is another advantage, while Stacey Metcalfe retains the ride after partnering the three-year-old in both previous starts.

Having shown good early speed, the drop back in distance shouldn't be an issue, and the decision to scratch from a Murray Bridge engagement to head here could prove worthwhile.

Winning Edge Presentations Class One Plate Tips (Race 4)

Morphettville Best Bet - Race 4 No. 5 Moussaka

Moussaka has improved with racing this preparation after resuming with a sixth over 1200m at Gawler in May.

The four-year-old then broke through in dominant fashion at Balaklava, putting four-and-a-half lengths on his rivals over 1600m.

Racing on a Soft 7 track, he settled in midfield before proving far too strong late, and similar tactics are expected from barrier eight.

The form of that race is yet to be fully tested, although the winner couldn't have been more impressive, while the extra distance here looks another positive.

Jason Holder boasts an 18.5% strike-rate (22/119) at Morphettville this season, and after riding Moussaka to victory last start, the pair look capable of going back-to-back.

Sportsbet Fast Form Class One Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Morphettville Value Bet - Race 5 No. 4 Fast Tempo

Fast Tempo broke through for his maiden victory over 1500m at Gawler in November.

The gelding raced on a Soft track that day before returning from a spell at this venue last month, where he encountered rain-affected ground for the first time since.

Dropped back to 1100m, he was ridden patiently before finishing a respectable fourth, beaten less than two lengths in Class 2 company after starting at $61.

The four-year-old worked home strongly in that return and should derive plenty of fitness benefit from the run.

The rise in distance looks ideal, and with a good second-up record, Fast Tempo appeals as a value chance for the Gordon Richards and Damien Moyle stable.

Aceit Transport Solutions Rating 0-58 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Morphettville Roughie - Race 7 No. 14 Geetee Forty

Consistency has been a feature of Geetee Forty's recent form, with the gelding finishing in the first four at each of his past four starts.

His latest effort came on the Parks circuit, where he finished fourth over 1973m at Benchmark 78 level on a Soft track.

The son of Sebring drops in grade here, carries another light weight and has already shown he can handle Heavy ground.

The slight drop back in distance isn't a concern, having won over this trip previously, while barrier seven shouldn't pose any issues given his recent racing pattern.

Isaac Sit claims a valuable 2kg, and Geetee Forty looks capable of rewarding each-way supporters at generous odds.
