Kia Ora Bloodlines To Headlines Handicap Tips (Race 1)


Canterbury Roughie - Race 1 No. 3 Oh Arthur

He's clearly had some issues, with Oh Arthur trialling well at Hawkesbury in February 2024 before being off the scene until completing two trials in July last year ahead of his well-held debut.

The lightly raced four-year-old was then given plenty more time before returning with blinkers applied and absolutely bolting in during a June 22 trial at Goulburn.

He went straight to the front and opened a huge margin while still under a hold, suggesting he's returned in excellent order.

With plenty of easier maiden options available on the country circuit, it's significant that connections have elected to come to town, while barrier four should allow him to settle on speed.

This maiden looks there for the taking, with the two favourites both coming through the Warwick Farm maiden won by Zoufame on June 24.

Headwater @ Vinery Stud Handicap Tips (Race 2)


Canterbury Best Bet - Race 2 No. 4 Sanctum

Bringing what should prove a popular form line is Sanctum, who chased home smart stablemate Omolong when making his debut at Warwick Farm on June 24.

The son of Stay Inside was ridden cold, searched for a run on straightening and laid in under pressure, yet still recorded the fastest final 200m of the program despite doing plenty wrong.

The extra 100m looks suitable for this second-up assignment.

Omolong has since franked the form by remaining unbeaten with another victory at Rosehill on July 4.

Sienna Grima retains the ride after enjoying a strong winter, including a winning double for Chris Waller at Rosehill last Saturday, and the colt looks capable of going one better.

Asahi Super Dry Handicap Tips (Race 3)


Canterbury Value Bet - Race 3 No. 8 Dirtballer

Earning a metropolitan opportunity for her hat-trick bid is Dirtballer, with the Bjorn Baker-trained filly justifying odds-on favouritism in both country appearances.

The first came at Sapphire Coast on June 7 when leading throughout on a Soft 7 track before backing that up in a Class 1 at Moruya on June 19.

There was plenty of merit in that latest victory after covering ground throughout, while she also handled the rise to 1200m comfortably.

This is clearly harder in city company, but her rivals are all still Class 1 eligible.

She's against her own age group and looks capable of measuring up in her first metropolitan assignment.

Robrick Lodge Handicap Tips (Race 5)


Canterbury Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 12 Agraffe Rocket

A half-brother to Group winners Paris Dior and Queen Of Dragons, Agraffe Rocket caught the eye on debut at Randwick before being spelled after a Magic Millions Maiden assignment.

The gelding resumed with a third as a well-backed favourite during the Scone Carnival behind stablemate Rustemo, who has since won his next two starts and was Group 3 placed last Saturday.

He followed that with a runner-up finish on the Randwick Kensington circuit, where he arguably should have finished even closer, before a much-deserved breakthrough at Newcastle last start.

Now stepping to BM64 company, the rise in distance looks favourable at this stage of the campaign.

Against some rivals with question marks, Agraffe Rocket profiles as the improving type with plenty of upside.
