Morphettville Roughie - Race 1 No. 6 Sectors

The daughter of Territories recorded a win in her sole barrier trial prior to making her racecourse debut at Gawler in October.

The pick raced from the rear of mid-division prior to finishing well to lose out by a narrow margin in finishing a close second on that occasion.

The filly contested an 1100m event that day and she went on to finish fifth having been hampered on jumping when racing over the same course and distance later in October.

The selection met with plenty of trouble in running when racing from off the pace that day and she can be forgiven that slightly disappointing effort.

The three-year-old failed to make much impact in a barrier trial at Murray Bridge last month however she is expected to strip fitter for that effort.

Trainer Phillip Stokes reaches for the blinkers here and with apprentice Taylor Johnstone up his filly make prove capable of recording a surprise win.

Sportsbet Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 2 Even Sharper

While unable to win in six previous starts on the Parks course here the gelding has registered some good efforts in defeat placing three times.

The most recent of those efforts saw the pick beaten just over two lengths when finishing third having jumped from next to the rail for a Benchmark 0-62 handicap here in March.

The four-year-old raced over 1250m that day and while he disappointed at big odds here subsequently he returned to form with a close second at Balaklava last time.

The son of More Than Ready lost out by a narrow margin when racing over 1400m in a Benchmark 0-60 handicap at Balaklava.

The gelding has the distance and underfoot conditions to suit here while any softening of the ground would be no issue with the selection having performed well on wet tracks in the past.

Andrew Gluyas’ representative looks ready for the return to metro racing he gets here and jumping from two off the rail looks up to recording his third career win.

Dominant Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Morphettville Value Bet - Race 5 No. 8 Duo Perna

The five-year-old has shown up well over this distance in the past registering two wins and a further two top three finishes from five starts.

The gelding recorded some good efforts in 2024 including when placing third over 1600m when contesting a Benchmark 64 handicap at Stawell just under a year ago.

The pick failed to make an impact in two subsequent outings that year and he was spelled following a seventh of eight on the main track here in June.

The son of Ambidexter raced on a wet track when competing in an 1800m Benchmark 68 handicap that day and he dropped markedly in distance for his return to action at Balaklava last month.

Jumping at $14 the selection came home second, beaten just under two-and-a-half-lengths in a 1200m Benchmark 58 handicap that day.

The step up to 1400m is in his favour here and Sandie Brennan’s representative looks value to register his second second-up success.

Frank White’s 80th Birthday Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Morphettville Best Bet - Race 7 No. 6 I Am Velvet

The daughter of I Am Immortal recorded wins in each of her first three starts including over 1400m at Caulfield in July last year.

The filly was highly tried in Group 3 company in two of her first three starts this season including when beaten less than four lengths into fourth over 1400m back at Caulfield in November.

The pick contested the Blue Sapphire Stakes, held on good going that day and having been spelled following that effort resumed with a Benchmark 70 win at Sandown last month.

The three-year-old won by just under half-a-length when jumping as a $2.10 favourite dropped to 1200m for that contest.

The selection proved a disappointment when trailing in last stepped up to 1400m for a Benchmark 78 handicap at Flemington last time she tackles an easier contest here.

The drop down to 1300m is also in her favour here and Phillip Stokes’ filly looks capable of returning to winning ways on her first start in South Australia.
