Brisbane heats up on Saturday, with the Doomben 10,000 featuring on the first Group 1 program of the Winter Carnival.

A strong card has been assembled at Doomben and out race-by-race preview for May 17 is detailed below.
Doomben Tips May 17
Race 1 - 11:48AM XXXX BM85 Handicap Tips (1600m)
Best: 4. Fukubana. He's well found with J-Mac now on, but the recent Sydney form through Fukubana has stood up.
The four-year-old gave a brave sight on the speed last start when second to Know Thyself (Listed winner last Saturday).
Shahzad has also franked that Randwick form, while from three starts at Doomben, Fukubana has two wins and a third.
Value: 15. Sizzling Gal. This proven wet tracker gets right down in the weights and Sizzling Gal arrives here hard-fit.
Her best run for the prep came last start, where the mare ran the fastest last 800m/600m and 400m of an Ipswich BM78.
She was competitive in similar company earlier this season, with a track/trip win on a Soft 7 before placing in a BM80.
Race 2 - 12:23PM The Star BM78 Handicap Tips (1350m)
Best: 16. Jealous. While she couldn't land a decent betting move first-up, Jealous was hard to miss in that fresh tilt.
The Robert Heathcote-trained galloper came from last to grab third at Eagle Farm and there's more in her favour here.
Along with being a perfect two-from-two second-up, Jealous is has also won both attempts on heavy ground.
Value: 12. Links. She was a Flemington winner 12 months ago and Links has the class to measure up here.
The daughter of Spieth didn't come up in a short summer prep, but her recent efforts in Sydney have been sound.
Links ran the second-fastest closing splits of her second-up event, where she was last and chasing in a slowly run race.
Race 3 - 12:58PM Impressu QTIS 3yo Plate Tips (1350m)
Best: 5. Cosmo Centaurus. He was far from disgraced in The Archer and blinkers went on ahead of that feature.
Horses can be slow away when that key gear change is first in effect, which was the case for Cosmo Centaurus.
Now back to his own age, he should find this easier and the gelding also maps for more favours under Tommy Berry.
Value: 4. Apuntar. Sets weights is the knock vs Goodlucktome (second fav) going off their last clash on April 1.
Still, there wasn't much between the two and then after failing a strong mile, Apuntar was back to 1400m last start.
He overcame some traffic and found the line in that April 3 tilt, and a wet track brings him further into calculations.
Race 4 - 1:33PM Sky Racing Bernborough Handicap Tips (1600m)
Best: 2. Al Mubhir. With the scratching's of Port Lockroy and Mighty Ulysses, this Listed affair is looking very thin.
Al Mubhir now goes on top by default, with the ex-William Haggas runner arriving off his best Australian performance.
He covered ground when third behind Punch Lane, who took out the Group 3 Hawkesbury Cup seven days later.
Value: 12. Brookhaven. He has been competitive at Listed level on multiple occasions over his last two campaigns.
The five-year-old can come to hand early and he was well supported fresh last prep when runner-up over 1400m.
1600m-1800m is about the right range for Brookhaven, so he warrants respect resuming over a suitable trip.
Race 5 - 2:08PM Seven Spirit Of Boom Classic Tips (1200m)
Best: 1. Grafterburners. This will be the main guide for both the Sires' Produce Stakes and Group 1 JJ Atkins.
Grafterburners may spot them a start, but he has a big motor and the QTIS Jewel winner impressed in Sydney last prep.
The Millenium form stood up through Rivellino and Within The Law, and this colt ran the fastest last 200m of that race.
Value: 11. Kilman. While he was plain at start two in the Pago Pago, Kilman was a debut winner on soft ground.
The youngster was well backed ahead of his victory over Grand Eagle and that runner-up has won his last two starts.
Kilman moved well via a quiet trial at Randwick on May 5 and that 1050m heat was completed on a Heavy 8.
Race 6 - 2:43PM JRA Chairman's Handicap Tips (2000m)
Best: 1. Sir Delius. It'll be interesting to see what the market does late with Sir Delius, who is on Australian debut.
The import last raced in the 2024 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and he's been given solid workouts in three Sydney trials.
It's hard to love his head carriage, but he's built a tidy record with it and all wins have come on rain affected ground.
Value: 10. Strathtay. A strong 3200m proved too much in the Sydney Cup, although he still wasn't disgraced.
Strathtay had been ticking over well without luck leading into that staying feature and he's generally thereabouts.
2400m is the right trip for Strathtay, but he's a good wet tracker who can figure in the exotics over a testing 2000m.
Race 7 - 3:22PM Magic Millions Bright Shadow Tips (1110m)
Best: 2. In Flight. Joe Pride has found a nice black-type option for In Flight, who arrives off a pair of seconds.
Back to mares company suits In Flight, a four-year-old who relishes wet ground and she only just missed second-up.
Dragonstone (Gold Rush winner) is rated well above any of these and third-up, there's still some improvement to come.
Value: 1. Tiger Shark. While she's drawn out, Tiger Shark is likely to push forward and look for the early lead.
On January 24, she almost got a second Listed win in the Goldmarket, where she cleared right out with Golden Boom.
Tiger Shark recorded her first-ever fresh win on May 3, while she's saluted in four of five second-up attempts.
Race 8 - 4:02PM Ladbrokes Doomben 10,000 Tips (1200m)
Best: 14. Benedetta. Blinkers are back on Benedetta for the Doomben 10,000 and Jamie Melham stays aboard the five-year-old following an unlucky All Aged Stakes effort.
She was never fully clear in that 1400m feature, with the mare working home in restricted room and coming back to 1200m is no knock.
Last year's Goodwood winner split Schwarz (has all favours) and Jimmysstar two starts back, while she was luckless in the Newmarket prior to that.
Next Best: 12. Sunshine In Paris. She again hasn't had much luck at the barrier draw, with the mare needing to overcome another wide alley, but she does get J-Mac back in the saddle.
The superstar hoop was on for her Champions Sprint victory last spring, which was fourth-up and he could be looking for the best ground late.
Blinkers go on Sunshine In Paris for the first time and as a galloper who is often most effective on the fresh side, four weeks between runs is a positive.
Value: 11. Hidden Wealth. Testing ground won't worry Hidden Wealth, as the gelding has won his last two wet track appearances and that includes a Heavy 10 victory first-up.
His overall strike rate is decent and coming back to Doomben could switch easily spark the five-year-old, who is unbeaten from two tries at this track.
Tommy Berry takes back the reins and it's a noteworthy engagement, as Berry has a perfect three-from-three record aboard Hidden Wealth.
Race 9 - 4:38PM HKJC World Pool Rough Habit Plate Tips (2000m)
Best: 4. Beau Dazzler. At long odds, there was a push for him first-up in the Queensland Guineas and it was a big run.
With the Queensland Derby in mind, Beau Dazzler could still be one short, albeit he hasn't tasted defeat at 1800m+.
He's currently double the quote of Shangri La Spring and he went straight past that rival only a fortnight ago.
Value: 6. Our Benefactor. His February 15 win was taken away (disqualified) and he then went to Sydney.
Our Benefactor wasn't disgraced in the Randwick Guineas and he had a short break after a plain Rosehill Guineas run.
He found trouble in the Queensland Guineas and he finished off well when clear (third-fastest last 200m of the race).
