There were excuses in his Queensland debut when badly held up at the Sunshine Coast earlier this season, but he was poor following that at Doomben.
Blinkers were re-applied for his third-up appearance at Eagle Farm, where he was runner-up on October 1 before going one better at Doomben a fortnight later.
Gambino remained consistent in three subsequent appearances without winning again, recording a pair of fourths and a third-place finish.
The form has been decent around his last run here on December 13.
His race-day blinkers weren't on for his March 17 trial, but it was a good piece of work when getting warm late to claim that 840m heat at Doomben.

Eagle Farm Favourite - Race 3 No. 9 All Adore
She's been a very consistent filly, with four wins and three placings from eight starts, and her only time finishing out of the money was a fifth-of-13 in a Wyong Highway on January 10, when tiring late after getting into a speed battle.
All Adore was freshened from that tough run, and after going down as an odds-on favourite on March 1, the three-year-old has won her last two starts.
That includes a comfortable victory over this track-and-trip on April 18.
She stays right down in the weights here with the claim, and apprentice rider Coriah Keatings has been in the saddle for her last six outings.
There are only three runners in single figures, including Surprise Honey, and All Adore comfortably beat that rival in her latest victory.
Ticketmaster Queensland Guineas Tips (Race 7)
Eagle Farm Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Brave Monarch
1000m was a little too sharp on debut, and the rise in distance subsequently played right into the hands of Brave Monarch, who rounded out his first campaign with a winning hat-trick.
That included two seven-furlong victories in November before a break.
With a few more favours, he likely would have saluted in his April 4 resumption over 1200m here.
The Munce-trained galloper quickly atoned with a strong victory a fortnight ago in the Listed Daybreak Lover, clearing out by more than two lengths, with two of his main threats here comfortably beaten in that same event.
He does need to tick the mile box, but he has the platform, and Martin Harley has options early from barrier three on a very deserving Queensland Guineas favourite.
Ladbrokes Victory Stakes Tips (Race 8)
Eagle Farm Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 13 Splash Back
It's hard to know what to make of the two favourites, as they are probably both running a second behind Private Harry if he's right.
The two-run prep earlier in the season was uninspiring, and so was the latest trial at Canterbury.
On the second line of betting is Lady Of Camelot, a very genuine type, but she hasn't raced since March 2025.
At a longer price, Splash Back has claims, having been in the market for the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes first-up at Randwick.
She was terrific without luck in that return, forced back after an early squeeze at the gates before getting home nicely in restricted room and recording the second-fastest last 400m of the entire April 11 card.
Sky Racing BM85 Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Eagle Farm Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 5 Charcoals
He's also accepted for the last at Hawkesbury on Saturday, with both races appearing winnable, although this Brisbane option looks the softer one.
Charcoals is knocking on the door and hasn't had much go right this prep.
After a good fresh run without favours, he arguably should have won at Kembla Grange before being forced back from a wide gate at Rosehill.
The four-year-old worked home with the fastest last 400m of that BM88, with the closing sectionals also rating well for the March 28 meeting.
Those recent New South Wales references read a rung or two above what his rivals bring to this, and he'll take some beating if they decide to head north.
