Ascot hosts a nine-race card on May 2, highlighted by the Group 3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes. Key betting tips include Rock 'N' The Jam as the best bet in Race 4, backed by recent form. Like Clockwork is noted as the 'next best' in Race 5, with a promising resumption. Riva Aquarama is the standout in Race 6, thanks to a strong jockey-trainer combination and ideal distance. For value, Maalis Song in Race 9 is suggested, especially given her last start win over a market rival. Bettors should watch for these high-potential runners.

Ascot Tips May 2

Pearce Racing Ladies Day Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Ascot Best Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Rock 'N' The Jam

He looked somewhat the obvious third-up on April 18 when stepping to 1600m, and Rock 'N' The Jam duly delivered for us with a comfortable victory as favourite.

Being only three runs back from a long break since showing plenty of ability in his first prep, there’s no reason why he can’t at least hold that form while staying in the same grade with 2kg more.

He comfortably handled Antique Star and Madam Magic in that clash a fortnight ago, with Miss Sky High potentially his biggest threat off different form, although she hasn’t won since November 2024.

The extra 200m shouldn’t slow him down, given the way he finished off last time, and breeding also supports the rise in trip.

Rock 'N' The Jam is well placed to continue his winning ways in this assignment.

Wittens Irrigation & Design Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Ascot Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 8 Like Clockwork

After saluting on debut over 1000m at Bunbury earlier in the season, it was a terrific effort when stepping to six furlongs at Ascot at start two, with Like Clockwork overcoming a slow start and still reeling in her rivals with relative ease.

That preparation culminated on New Year’s Day with a third-place finish, again finding the line from back in the field.

She goes straight to 1200m for Saturday’s resumption and arrives here off an eye-catching trial at Lark Hill on April 20.

William Pike takes the reins on the daughter of Extreme Choice, who gets in on the 54kg minimum.

It's not a bad race, but Like Clockwork looks the one in this field with the most upside.

Peters Investments Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Ascot Favourite - Race 6 No. 4 Riva Aquarama

The jockey and trainer partnership of William Pike and Daniel Morton is a formidable one, with the pair striking at better than 34% over the last 12 months.

Pike has the fresh engagement on Riva Aquarama, who was competitive in three stakes attempts at the end of her last campaign.

Both of her wins in her first prep came over sprint trips, and 1200m-1400m looks her ideal range going forward.

She looked to have the mile of the WA Champions Fillies Group 3 shot to bits on the turn, but simply didn’t run out the distance.

Even with the 2kg claim, in-form Snitzalette still carries 61kg, which is 6kg more than Riva Aquarama, who has a sharp turn-of-foot and just needs the breaks from a low draw.

City Of Belmont Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Ascot Value Bet - Race 9 No. 11 Maalis Song

Leading the market for the last is Too Darn Stormy, while each-way odds are available for Maalis Song, who beat that rival fair and square when resuming on April 1.

He wasn’t able to go on with it when stepping up in grade a fortnight ago, but he was also set a big task from back in the field.

The gelding still recorded the fastest last 800m, 600m and 400m of that event, and getting to seven furlongs could suit now third-up.

This time around, jockey Laqdar Ramoly has gate two at his disposal, and he'll need to be more positive early from the low draw.

Superfluous is one at long odds to consider, as he keeps finding the line, including a fourth-of-11 finish in the same April 1 race.
