Paula Badosa vs Julia Grabher Tips, Prediction & Live Stream
Paula Badosa will be looking to raise her level in front of her home fans when she comes up against Julia Grabher in the first round of the Madrid Open on Tuesday.
A former semi-finalist in Madrid back in 2021, Badosa's career has taken a downward spiral due to injuries over the last few years, with the Spaniard needing a wildcard to compete in this year's edition after dropping out of the top 100. The former World No. 2 has recently revealed she's playing every match on painkillers and you've got to wonder how much she has left in the tank, especially given her ranking situation.
Meanwhile, Grabher is enduring a truly awful season - she hasn't registered a tour-level victory since the Australian Open and has also tumbled out of the top 100. The Austrian won tons of matches on clay at ITF level last year, but she's clearly struggled to replicate that success when stepping up to the main tour.
Tough match to predict due to the continued uncertainty surrounding Badosa's fitness. But, given it's her home tournament, I think Badosa leaves it all out there. Most other opponents I'd back the upset, but Grabher is in terrible form. I'll back Badosa in a win that features Over 18.5 total games.

Badosa vs Grabher Head To Head
This will be the first tour-level meeting between the pair.
Paula Badosa Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 6-10
- WTA Madrid Record: 9-8
- Current Ranking: No. 103
- Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (2022)
It's been an extremely challenging last few years for Badosa and it's tough to see how she returns to the upper echelons of the game in her current state.
An ongoing and chronic back injury has contributed to Badosa's slide down the rankings, with the Spaniard revealing recently that she's taking painkillers to play basically every match.
With her ranking outside the world's top 100 and the wildcard set to dry up around the world, it's hard to see Badosa competing and grinding on the ITF Tour in a bid to rebuild her ranking - which makes opportunities like this all the more important.
Badosa made the third round in Charleston, but has gone 0-2 to start the clay swing in Europe, losing 6-4 7-6(5) to the rising Lilli Tagger in Linz before a 2-6 7-5 6-4 defeat to Eva Lys in Stuttgart, where she blew a big lead in the second set.
Julia Grabher Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 1-4
- WTA Madrid Record: 1-1
- Current Ranking: No. 107
- Career-High Ranking: No. 54 (2023)
Grabher won almost 60 matches at all levels last year, but it's safe to say she's not going to come close to that figure in 2026.
Overall, the Austrian has won just four matches across 10 tournaments at all levels and she's without a tour-level victory since beating Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the first round of the Australian Open in January.
The 29-year-old lost in the opening round of Linz in straight sets to Alexandra Eala before a truly shocking display at an ITF event last week in Portoroz, losing 6-0 6-1 to World No. 414 Lisa Zaar.
