Venus Williams is set to return to the Madrid Open, facing Kaitlin Quevedo in the opening round. Williams, 45, is on a 10-match losing streak, and her record on clay hasn't improved in recent years. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Quevedo is gaining recognition on the tour, excelling on clay. The significant age gap and Williams' recent form make Quevedo the favorite. The article suggests Quevedo will likely secure a win due to her strong clay court record.

Kaitlin Quevedo vs Venus Williams Tips, Prediction & Live Stream
Venus Williams returns to Madrid for the first time since 2021 as the legendary veteran prepares to face rising Spanish youngster Kaitlin Quevedo in the opening round on Tuesday.
Just the casual 25-year age gap between these two as the 45-year-old Venus comes up against 20-year-old Florida-born Quevedo in the opening round of the Madrid Open. Venus first turned pro as a 14-year-old back in 1994 - a full 12 years before Quevedo was even born! When Venus won her first two Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2000, Quevedo was still six years away from entering the world. Crazy stuff.
You've got to admire Venus and her continued pursuit of a tour-level victory in her mid-forties, but I just don't see it happening. The seven-time major champion is currently on a 10-match losing streak and hasn't been able to win a match on clay since all the way back in 2019.
Quevedo meanwhile is just starting to make a name for herself on tour and I'd expect to see her crack the top 100 at some stage over the next 12 months. Although she was born in the United States, Quevedo is a natural clay courter and switched her allegiance to Spain a few years ago. The 20-year-old has won lots of matches on the dirt on the ITF circuit over the last year and should be confident of coming away with a fairly routine victory here.
If this match was on hardcourt, then I'd give Venus a fighters chance - she could at the very least snatch a set. However, clay was never really her surface when she was at her peak 25 years ago, let alone right now. I just can't see Venus being able to keep up with Quevedo with her movement in these conditions - backing the Spaniard in straights.

Kaitlin Quevedo Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 3-2
- WTA Madrid Record: 0-0
- Current Ranking: No. 140
- Career-High Ranking: No. 127 (April 2026)
Quevedo has started to dip her toes onto the main tour in 2026 after some strong ITF results last year helped propel her up the rankings.
The 20-year-old made her main draw debut in Auckland to launch the year, qualifying before toppling Peyton Stearns to make the second round.
The Spaniard also qualified for Cluj-Napoca in February, but hasn't featured in a WTA main draw since.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Quevedo to claim her first WTA 1000 main draw victory and to take down a legend of the sport.
Venus Williams Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 0-6
- WTA Madrid Record: 6-6
- Current Ranking: No. 479
- Career-High Ranking: No. 1 (2002)
Venus continues to toil away in a bid to secure a tour-level victory at the age of 45.
The legendary American continues to remain relatively competitive, but she obviously doesn't have the match toughness or legs to outlast her younger opponents these days.
Venus has lost all six of her matches in 2026 after receiving wildcards into Auckland, Hobart, the Australian Open, Austin, Indian Wells and Miami.
Now, Venus will feature in her first clay court match since losing in the first round of the 2021 French Open.
