I predicted Bencic to emerge from this quarter pre-tournament at odds of $8.00 and I'll stick with the Swiss here - although hedging your bets if you tailed is also recommended. But I love what I've seen from Bencic so far in Miami - she's coming off a destructive 6-2 6-2 win over Amanda Anisimova and I believe she can double down on another American.

Gauff has been all over the place this season - her serve is barely top 100 level, which just goes to show her strong the rest of her game is. Gauff played better in her three-set R16 win over Sorana Cirstea, but in the tight and pressure moments on the big stage, I just don't trust that serve - and I don't think she does either.

Most matches between these two have been close and I think another tight one is in store here - but Bencic is confident and I believe operating at a higher level right now. Take the Swiss to win in three.

"I'm very excited. I'm definitely up for the challenge," Bencic said. "I'm really excited to challenge her again, and to try to see what I can improve and do better. We'll see tomorrow; it's going to be a good match and a good atmosphere."

Relatively speaking, it's been a difficult start to the season for Gauff.

The American was crushed 6-1 6-2 by Elina Svitolina in the Australian Open quarter-finals, while she's also suffered surprise defeats to the likes of Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Alexandra Eala across these opening three months.

Gauff's serve has been shambolic, spraying double faults all over the place - it remains a big issue in her game that repeatedly pops up.

The 22-year-old has battled her way through to the Miami quarter-finals this tournament, with all of her wins over Cocciaretto, Alycia Parks and Sorana Cirstea coming in three sets.

It's been a great start to the season for Bencic, but she will want to convert some of this form into a deep singles run.

Bencic was on fire to launch the year at the United Cup, leading Switzerland to the silverware with a pair of top 10 wins over Iga Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini.

A shock second round loss at the Australian Open to qualifier Nikola Bartunkova followed, but Bencic bounced back with solid R16 showings at both Dubai and Indian Wells, losing tight matches to Svitolina and Jessica Pegula.

Bencic has surged into the Miami quarter-finals this tournament without relinquishing a single set, easing past Zeynep Sonmez, Diana Shnaider and Amanda Anisimova.
