The Doomben 10,000 is the first Group 1 of the 2026 Queensland Racing Carnival, with a strong sprint field assembling for the 1200m feature at Doomben.

While he hasn’t saluted in three appearances this year, Jimmysstar (barrier 11) has improved sharply since a disappointing first-up effort in the William Reid Stakes, progressing to a fifth-place finish in the TJ Smith Stakes before an unlucky third-of-13 result in the All Aged Stakes.

All three of the gelding’s Group 1 victories came in 2025, showcasing his versatility with wins ranging from 1100m in the Oakleigh Plate through to 1400m in the All Aged and CF Orr Stakes.

Spelled after an impressive Group 3 success on Cox Plate Day last spring, Napoleonic (barrier 10) resumed in 2026 with consecutive runner-up finishes, including a placing behind Tempted over this distance.

Following his Group 1 eighth-of-ten in the Canterbury Stakes on March 7, the three-year-old has won two trials ahead of the Doomben 10,000, where he's the second emergency.

Although he hasn’t won since taking out last year’s Blue Diamond Stakes, Devil Night (barrier 8) continues to race consistently, having recorded three placings from three starts this campaign.

After finishing behind a flying Jigsaw in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes, the son of Extreme Choice filled another placing when splitting Tempted and Grafterburners in the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint.

Grafterburners (barrier 7) was scratched from a planned return in The Galaxy before resuming in the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint at Randwick on April 11, where the colt finished third in the Group 2 feature won by Tempted.

That performance represented his first defeat of the 2025/26 season after four consecutive wins, with connections appearing to have found his ideal setup by keeping him to sprint trips.

Private Eye (barrier 3) is edging closer to $13 million in career prizemoney, and the veteran sprinter-miler has trialled since resuming with a third-place finish in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes.
