Sydney Roosters vs Penrith Panthers NRL 2026 Round 3 FAQ’s

The Panthers have dominated the Roosters in recent years, winning 10 of the last 12 regular season matches aswell as the 2 finals clashes. The Roosters did pick up a rare win early last season while the Panthers were readjusting to their new structures, but they are not expected to be as close this time around.

Sydney are notorious for being inconsistent early on in the season. They build their form slowly toward September and can be up and down like a rollercoaster across the first 5 rounds. We saw this via a poor disciplined outing in Round 1 which they lost to the Warriors and a more complete performance last week in a win vs Souths.

Penrith on the other hand have been extremely solid to start the year. They kept the defending premiers to nil in round 1 and allowed just the one try to the Sharks last week who are renowned point scorers. It seems their dynasty defence is back and it's showing in the 2026 Premiership Odds Markets.

The Panthers forward pack, spearheaded by their Top 5 Lock of 2026 in Issah Yeo, have controlled the Run Metres and have not given up too much ball to their opponents in their two games. They have managed the tempo of the games to suit their style of play and fatigued their opponents into making mistakes and giving up points. The same is likely to happen again this weekend.

Take Penrith to win and cover the line of -5.5 as the road Favourite. The Game Total is inflated with the high scoring this season, take the Under 45.5. Dylan Edwards has an amazing strike rate against Sydney, book him in for a 4-pointer.

Penrith have won 11 of the last 12 games against Sydney.
Games over the first 2 rounds have averaged 50.5 but the Panthers have allowed just 6 pts total with a game average of under 30 pts.
The Panthers outperform the Roosters in Run Metres, Errors and Completion Rate.
Dylan Edwards has scored a try in 5 of his last 6 games against the Roosters.

Head to Head

The teams split the chocolates 1-1 last year with Penrith winning the most recent matchup 40-12 at Allianz Stadium. Prior to the Roosters win last year, Penrith had won 10 in a row which included 2 finals matchups.

The Game Total went Over in both games last year as well as 6 of the last 9 matchups. Penrith are 9-3 ATS in games since the start of 2019.

Sydney Roosters Form Analysis

The Roosters hit back from their Round 1 loss with a dominant 26-18 win over arch-rivals South Sydney in a game which saw Alex Johnston take the all-time NRL tryscoring record.

Sydney had less possession and a worse completion rate but still managed to gain 1664 Run Metres and 575 Post Contact Metres. They still had 14 errors as well as 5 penalties and 4 ruck infringements conceded but were able to weather the storm more effectively than they did in Round 1.

Penrith Panthers Form Analysis

Penrith have conceded just 6 points in two games to start the year. 26-0 over the Broncos in Round 1 and a 57th minute try to the Sharks last weekend while already leading 24-0 shows just how tough their defensive line is to crack.

Their forward pack has dominated the territory in both games, running for 1600+ Metres in both games while restricting their opponent to under 1400 both times.
