North QLD Cowboys vs Gold Coast Titans, Round 3 2026 - Expert Prediction

This game for me is more of a coin flip but with the large variance of outcomes these two teams produce, the Top NRL bookmakers have found a number at 5.5 and i’m almost forced to take the Titans at +5.5.

North QLD Cowboys vs Gold Coast Titans NRL 2026 Round 3 FAQ’s

This is one of the hardest games of the round to pick. Do historical trends between the teams take precedence or do we rely on stats that contribute to winning games? Or should we just fall back on the eye test? The Cowboys have dominated the Titans in recent years and they have a large advantage in Run Metres this season so far.

But the Gold Coast are not the same team they were last year. Despite giving up 50 to the Sharks in Round 1, their defensive structures have improved and their attack is still just as dangerous as ever in broken play.

The Cowboys defence has almost gotten worse, there will be multiple opportunities for the Titans to break the line and create offloads, allowing their ball runners to find spaces to put on points. North Queensland will get themselves up the ground with their strong forward pack and Tom Dearden steering the team. But they haven’t shown they can keep pace in scoring or stop the other team when necessary.

This game could end in Golden Point or with a 20 pt margin either way. That is the level of variance that these teams have in their makeup. But I'm taking the Titans to cover and to go Over their Team Total of 24.5 pts. Beau Fermor is the top pick for tryscorer.

In pre-season modelling these two teams provided two of the largest variances on week to week results thanks to their poor defence and ability to score.
The Cowboys allowed an average of 28.5 pts per game to opponents last season and have allowed 72 pts over their first two games of 2026.
Beau Fermor scored in both matches against the Cowboys last season and in 4 of 7 during his career.
The Cowboys allowed 3 tries to backrowers last weekend.

Head to Head

North Queensland have dominated this matchup in recent years, winning 9 of 14 matchups since the start of the 2019 season. They also won both games last season.

3 of the last 4 games have gone Over the Game Total but historically the Under has hit in 9 of the last 14 games.

The Cowboys have covered in all but 1 of their 9 wins during this period.

North QLD Cowboys Form Analysis

The Cowboys have major problems in defence. Over their first two games of the season they have allowed 72 combined points to 2 of the 3 worst scoring teams from 2025.

Last week they were embarrassed by the Wests Tigers 44-16, most of the damage being done in the first half with a 28-2 deficit at the break. They allowed 1958 Run Metres to their opponent as well as 8 Linebreaks and had 46 Missed Tackles.

With ball in hand they completed just 67% of their sets and made just 4 Linebreaks.

Gold Coast Titans Form Analysis

The Gold Coast Titans showed great signs of positivity in their second game of the season last weekend. They eventually lost 18-14 to the Dolphins but they kept one of the league’s best scoring teams to just 18 pts and 0 pts in the first half.

There was a big focus on improving the defence during the off-season under new coach Josh Hannay and there were big question marks after conceding 50 in Round 1. But last weekend’s performance was likely more of what can be expected of the Titans in 2026.
