Saturday night’s NRL Round 9 showdown sees the Sydney Roosters face the Brisbane Broncos at Allianz Stadium, both teams eager to prove they’re premiership contenders. The Roosters ride a four-match win streak with scoring power, but critics note their recent wins came against struggling teams. Meanwhile, the resilient Broncos—boosted by the return of stars Reece Walsh and Pat Carrigan—have developed a tough defensive edge, conceding just 18.2 points on average in their last five games. Key bets favor a low total score and the Broncos to keep the Roosters under 28.5 points.

Sydney Roosters vs Brisbane Broncos NRL Round 9 Tips & Prediction

It's shaping as a blockbuster clash on Saturday night at Allianz Stadium as the Sydney Roosters and Brisbane Broncos look to further enhance their premiership credentials.

I think it's pretty safe to say that these two teams are the second and third best sides in the competition after Penrith coming into Round 8.

Both the Roosters and Broncos have won five of their last six games - the Chooks' attack has been ruthless across the last month (but against weak opposition), while the Broncos have developed a steely underbelly, with Michael Maguire putting an emphasis on defence that has seen them defy the odds with lots of big stars sidelined.

Brisbane welcome back a pair of those superstars for this one - namely Reece Walsh and Pat Carrigan, which goes without saying is a huge boost. The Broncos have conceded an average of 18.2 points across their last five games and I believe they will be up to the occasion and keen to make another statement here.

I still need to see more from the Roosters - yes, they've piled on the points against the Sea Eagles (before FozBall), Sharks, Knights and Dragons, but all of those teams have been in shocking form lately. We'll see if that attack and improved discipline holds up against the reigning premiers.

Best bets for this clash focus on defence - backing Under 51.5 total points and for the Broncos to restrict the Roosters to Under 28.5 team points, which looks far too high. Walsh has scored a try in his last two games against the Chooks - he'll be keen to make an immediate impact in his return from injury and against opposing No. 1 James Tedesco.
  • Broncos have held Roosters Under 28.5 team points in seven of the last nine meetings
  • Broncos have conceded an average of 18.2 points in their last five games
  • Seven of the last nine meetings have seen Under 51.5 points
  • Reece Walsh has scored a try in his last two appearances vs Roosters & has scored a try in his last six games in NSW
  • Both teams have won five of their last six games this season

Roosters vs Broncos Head To Head

Roosters have won three of the last four meetings, but the Broncos staged an ambush in their last clash at Allianz, dropping 50 points early on last season.

Sydney Roosters Form Analysis

The Roosters are riding a tidal wave of point-scoring momentum into this clash.

Indeed, the Chooks have scored 167 points during their current four-game winning streak, which includes victories over the Sea Eagles, Sharks, Knights and Dragons.

The Sam Walker and Daly Cherry-Evans partnership in the halves is developing nicely, with Walker picking up his third ANZAC Day player of the match honours as the Roosters demolished the Dragons 66-22 last week.

Walker's support play remains underrated as he picked up a double, as did wingers Daniel Tupou and Mark Nawaqanitawase.

Brisbane Broncos Form Analysis

After a shaky start to the season, the Broncos have settled and come into this encounter with five wins from their last six games and are now second favourites for the premiership.

It's been impressive from Brisbane - I think most expected them to go the other way after a number of injuries and suspensions to star players, but they've dug in and proven they can get their hands dirty.

Despite battling a growing casualty ward, the Broncos have won their last two games as outsiders against the Tigers and Bulldogs.

Those wins were built on the back of some rock-solid defence, with Brisbane sprinting out to a 26-0 lead over the Dogs last week before taking their foot off the gas late.

Sydney Roosters vs Brisbane Broncos Team News

No injury concerns at all for Trent Robinson, with the Roosters' coach naming the same squad for the fourth game in a row.

Some huge returns for Brisbane, led by Reece Walsh and Pat Carrigan.

Verdict

Expecting both sides to aim up in defence in a bid to flex their premiership credentials. Reece Walsh will be dangerous in his return from injury.
