The Canterbury Bulldogs are set to maintain their unbeaten streak in the 2025 NRL season by securing a narrow victory against the Brisbane Broncos in Round 8. With impeccable defense and strategic plays, the Bulldogs are dominating the field, allowing fewer than 10 points per game. In contrast, the Broncos struggle in scoring despite strong performances from key players Payne Haas and Pat Carrigan. Key incidents include a notable left-side offensive push from the Bulldogs, with Marcelo Montoya expected to score. The match promises a dynamic turn of events as per expert predictions.

Brisbane Broncos vs Canterbury Bulldogs, Round 8 2025 - Expert Prediction

Canterbury have had the perfect start to 2025 and are playing a similar brand of footy that coach Cameron Ciraldo was used to at his former club Penrith. The Dogs are the best defensive team in the competition leaking under 10 points per game this season on average and are playing percentage rugby league, winning the battle through the middle and dominating territory.

Brisbane, have been struggling to score points and have failed to capitalise on the strong seasons of Payne Haas and Pat Carrigan with their backs unable to execute. With the injury to Reece Walsh compiling on top of the lack of attack from the Broncos, expect the Dogs contain Brisbane and wear them down, just as they done to most of their opponents this season.

Expect a low-scoring first half then the Bulldogs to capitalise and get a 1-12 victory. Canterbury will attack heavily down their left side and Marcelo Montoya will reap the benefits with a try.

  • Canterbury are 6-0 this season
  • All three of Brisbane’s losses have been by a 1-12 margin
  • The last 4 Bulldogs games have had a half time score of 20 points or less.
  • Brisbane have conceded 6 tries in their last 3 games to opposing left centre/wings.

Head to Head

Canterbury won the only meeting against Brisbane in 2024, crushing the Broncos at Suncorp 41-16 with Connor Tracy scoring 3 tries.

The win broke a 5-game losing streak for Canterbury against Brisbane.

After a 4-1 start to the year, the Broncos have now lost two matches in a row heading into both games against the Roosters and the Warriors as heavy favourites of 8.5 points or more and walking away with their tails between their legs

Despite being ranked second in the NRL with an average of 28.3 points per game, the number is luring, scoring over that average just twice in 6 games. Brisbane scored just 16 points in their loss to the Roosters and just 18 against the Warriors in their golden point loss last week.

Patrick Carrigan (1,257 metres) and Payne Haas (1,193 metres) are two of the top three forwards in the NRL in run metres gained, however, the Broncos fail to capitalize on their forwards work and are ranked 10th in the NRL with just 49.4% territory.

What a start to the 2025 season for the Bulldogs, claiming their sixth win with a 32-0 drubbing of the South Sydney Rabbitohs last weekend. It was the perfect game for the Bulldogs who executed to perfection  having 70% of the territory on the back of 816 more run metres than South sydney and a count of 8 linebreaks to the Rabbitohs zero.

The Dogs appear to be a field above the rest of the competition averaging just 9.7 points against per game. Canterbury control their matches by winning the field position battle, leading the NRL with 1578.3 run metres per game and 53.3% possession while ranking second with 39.5 tackles inside their opposition 20m and 57.7% territory.

With Matt Burton and Villiame Kikau back in the side last week, the Dogs also turned on their attack, running the ball consistently down the left and wearing down the defence of the Rabbits.
