The Bates Family Country Boosted Maiden Tips (Race 2)

In a fast-run affair, this four-year-old simply found one better when reeled in late over this track/trip first-up, with the winner having the last say off a strong tempo.

If anything, this maiden is a little weaker overall and given she did show a turn-of-foot over this distance via that return, staying at 1300m early in the prep is a positive.

Kaisa was knocking on the door last campaign, with three placings from six starts over that prep and that includes a runner-up finish in a handy provincial event at Wyong.

The Egan Family Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Scone Value Bet - Race 5 No. 8 Devocean

While he'll prosper over more ground, I suspect Devocean will be the best horse to come from this race, a four-year-old that's been under a firm hold in two lead-up trials.

After showing potential in two Jan trials, the son of Ocean Park caught the eye on debut before recording a brave Port Macquarie breakthrough in Feb.

Trainer Paul Shailer makes a long trip with this talented gelding and while 1300m is as short as he wants, he should relish the bigger surrounds of this Scone track.

Scone Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Bootscooter

Although she has had plenty of chances since bringing up win number three in a Highway last winter, this is the weakest race she's seen since that Randwick triumph.

Following that victory, Bootscooter almost won the Grafton Guineas before a spell and since her Jan return, the daughter of Sidestep has been thereabouts in stronger company.

With a few scratching's from harder events this week, local trainer Rodney Northam is after a softer option for Bootscooter, who is back in grade from a Sat BM78.

Martins Stock Haulage BM58 Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Scone Roughie - Race 8 No. 4 Marvelous

Given he has an association with a few contenders in this BM58, the booking of gun country jockey Aaron Bullock on the son of So You Think is well worth noting.

A galloper that's been competitive on the provincial circuit, Marvelous has been building into his winter prep well, finishing within a few lengths of the winner in both runs.

He went from 1200m to 1300m via his latest outing at Hawkesbury, a performance which supports the seven-furlong attempt now, while the big Scone circuit should suit.
