Flemington Tips May 16

Trevor Clarke Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Flemington Value Bet - Race 2 No. 1 Different Gravy

This shapes as a cracking race and one that may prove a strong form reference towards the Queensland Oaks and Queensland Derby.

Different Gravy looks one who could be on a Derby path and an each-way quote appeals despite giving weight to all of his rivals.

Connections could have claimed if there were any genuine concerns with the impost, so there is confidence around the gelding.

Henry Dwyer also replaces the winkers with blinkers here after Different Gravy improved second-up in Adelaide following a month between runs.

The Caulfield Heath jump-out win on April 30 suggests he has come on again from that latest effort.

Sir Eugene Gorman Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Flemington Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 2 Lovelycut

Stakes-placed as an early three-year-old, Lovelycut spent 10 months away from racing before returning last September.

That three-run campaign culminated with a third-up Seymour victory, where the mare proved her credentials at 1400m.

After an even resumption at Caulfield, Lovelycut improved sharply over this track-and-trip on April 25 when runner-up behind Capper Thirtynine.

That honest galloper was competitive in much stronger company last Saturday, while Cripps, who finished behind Lovelycut there, had won by 6.5 lengths at his previous start.

The form around that race reads strongly and Lovelycut looks well placed back against her own sex with improvement still to come.

Sharp EIT Sir Henry Bolte Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Flemington Favourite - Race 5 No. 9 Yes Yoshi

While still raw, above-average ability was evident in his opening two victories during January and February.

Nothing went right for Yes Yoshi when resuming at Bendigo on May 2 despite recording the fastest final 200m of the race.

The three-year-old was never fully clear there and the fresh run shapes as a genuine forgive effort.

An unknown down the straight, the gelding may still appreciate the spacious layout given he looks a type who needs galloping room.

Marsept shapes as the main danger after a dominant Geelong maiden win, while his prior form through Extragalactic reads strongly for an off-season three-year-old race.

Hilton Nicholas TAB Straight Six Tips (Race 8)

Flemington Roughie - Race 8 No. 1 Title Fighter

Admittedly it came with much less weight and at bolter’s odds, although Title Fighter won this race last year off the same Wangoom Stakes lead-up.

The five-year-old appears to be going even better this time around despite running into the smart Olivanaotherday in this year’s Wangoom.

Title Fighter still stuck on fairly in Heavy conditions there after another encouraging effort first-up in the Hareeba Stakes at Mornington.

He was not beaten far by Desert Lightning in that Listed event and that galloper subsequently won the Group 1 Goodwood last Saturday.

The Hareeba Stakes winner Recon also performed strongly in The Goodwood and those references look excellent now back against benchmark opposition.

Murray Cox Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Flemington Best Bet - Race 9 No. 11 Mr Blunt

Mr Blunt and Skippers Canyon are the only two runners holding single-figure quotes in the final event and both come through the same BM84 here on April 25.

The McEvoy-trained galloper won that race comfortably and showed versatility under a colder ride after settling back from a wider draw.

The weight swing favours Skippers Canyon this time around, although he still has to make up a decent margin on a lightly raced galloper who continues to improve.

Mr Blunt has taken a step forward with every run this campaign and gains more tactical options from barrier five.

The form also reads strongly through the Ballarat second-up effort when Mr Blunt finished runner-up behind Rohesia, with that classy filly subsequently recording a comfortable Listed victory in Adelaide.
