Echuca Tips June 2
Best Bet
Race 4 No. 3 Bruzani
The four-year-old has just one success to his name, however he has recorded some good efforts in defeat this season.
The gelding was spelled following a below-par seventh at Great Western in January and resumed at Mount Gambier last month.
The return to a wet track, a Soft 7, appeared to suit, with the four-year-old beaten just over two lengths in a Benchmark 0-54 handicap that day.
Peter Chow’s representative headed into that race without a recognised trial and is expected to have improved fitness-wise for the outing.
The son of Brutal has a wide barrier to overcome, however he is tactically versatile and, with blinkers returning for this race, is taken to record a win second-up.
Value Bet
Race 8 No. 7 Bronco Revolution
The Russian Revolution mare has shown up well at this venue in the past, registering two top-three finishes from four starts here.
The exception came when she was beaten just under three lengths into fourth in a Benchmark 56 handicap on her penultimate start.
Kevin Evans’ mare raced over this distance that day and again performed well from a double-figure barrier when finishing fourth at Echuca 10 days later.
Both of those efforts came on wet tracks and, with that in mind, the forecast Soft 6 surface should not pose any problems.
Chelsea Thompson takes a valuable 2kg off the mare’s back and, from barrier six, Bronco Revolution rates value to record her third career win.
Market Mover
Race 7 No. 8 Cortain
Jett Stanley was among the winners sticking to the inside rail at Caulfield on Saturday and his mount in Race 7 has attracted market support.
Cortain is the horse in question and, after being beaten narrowly over 1109m here last time, drops in grade after competing at Benchmark 0-56 level.
The five-year-old has attracted strong support with Ladbrokes, firming into a $4.20 favourite after opening at $7.
Stats Say
Trainer Patrick Payne has his horses in good form, boasting a near 27% strike-rate (14/52) since the beginning of May.
The stable has two runners engaged on the card, with Achy Breaky Heart appearing the pick of them in the opener.
The juvenile debuted with a promising fifth at Seymour recently, while fellow stable representative The Cable Guy makes his debut in the 1400m maiden after gaining plenty of jumpout experience.
