Bunbury Tips July 30
Members Appreciation Day Maiden Tips (Race 1)
Bunbury Best Bet - Race 1 No. 5 Modern Girl
She showed glimpses of raw ability in three starts during her first campaign earlier in the season, finishing runner-up on debut before recording back-to-back fourth-place finishes at Bunbury in December.
Modern Girl returned with the best performance of her career on July 15, covering ground throughout after racing wide on the speed before only being caught in the final stride by Sunset Session.
That winner had been building towards a breakthrough after opening the campaign with consecutive runner-up finishes at Belmont and went close to completing a double when runner-up again in a handy midweek contest on Wednesday.
The Sue Naylor-trained filly remains at 1000m for her second-up assignment and, from a kinder draw, there is more in her favour here.
With any improvement second-up off that brave resumption, Modern Girl is well placed to go one better.
Wendy O'Reilly Maiden Tips (Race 5)
Bunbury Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 13 Cape Churchill
A wide draw presents a challenge, but Cape Churchill brings comfortably the strongest recent exposed form into this 1400m maiden.
The filly has finished third in both career starts at Bunbury, beginning by splitting subsequent winners Unwanted News and Lemmor Filou on debut, with the latter successful in her next two starts, including a Belmont Class 1 on Wednesday.
She then stepped up in grade second-up behind Desert Ora, who completed a four-peat with that July 15 victory, while runner-up Cosmic Waltz and fifth-placegetter Double The Fun have both franked the form with subsequent wins and placings.
Bazaactly shapes as the main danger after an encouraging debut without much luck, while Win For Buster and Olaf The Snowman also have claims.
Despite the awkward barrier, Cape Churchill has the best form references in the race and still looks to have plenty of improvement to come.

Bunbury Value Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Chantel
Although drawn wide, Chantel looks likely to press forward in search of the lead, particularly if third emergency Who By Fire doesn't gain a start.
The six-year-old struck wet tracks throughout her disappointing autumn campaign before heading for a break after failing on a Heavy 10 in May.
There was support for the mare at a bolter's quote when she resumed in a Saturday metro 60+ contest on July 11, and she stuck on fairly after enjoying a soft run.
Her work through the line suggested the rise in distance would suit, a view supported by her previous record, while Chantel defeated Zaza Rock in her last two victories before that galloper completed a Saturday metro hat-trick later in that season.
Despite a slight rise in the weights, she's still well treated on the 54kg minimum back in provincial company and can give a sight at a big price.
