Belmont Tips August 5

Glenroy Chaff Maiden Tips (Race 2)

Belmont Best Bet - Race 2 No. 5 Two Up Boom

It was a solid return in a good Belmont affair on July 8, where Two Up Boom finished fourth and recorded the fastest final 200m of the 1200m event.

The form has worked out well, with winner Refemme No Angel narrowly beaten in a Belmont Class 3 next start, third-placed Flash Dancer winning his next two appearances and fifth-placed Superb Vintage saluting at Pinjarra eight days later.

Two Up Boom was then unsuited when dropping slightly in distance at Northam on July 23 and was also slow away, which is not uncommon when blinkers are applied for the first time, with that key gear change taking effect for his second-up outing.

Despite that, the gelding still worked home strongly and recorded the second-fastest final 200m of the entire July 23 meeting.

Getting to 1300m suits on Wednesday, while William Pike takes the reins and, over the last 12 months, “The Wizard” has ridden 57 winners for the Grant and Alana Williams stable at a terrific strike rate of 31%.

Swan Draught Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Belmont Value Bet - Race 6 No. 11 Stolen

Despite being a half-sister to dual stakes-winning sprinter Taunting, Stolen is giving the impression that she is looking for a staying journey.

That has been evident in all three appearances since joining the Mack Hall stable, with the latest coming over 1800m at Pinjarra on July 22, where she made inroads from the rear for a sixth-of-14 finish and recorded the second-fastest final 200m of the Class 1.

Following a solid stable debut over 1400m at Belmont on July 1, there were excuses when she backed up eight days later, with the daughter of Dundeel settling back and chasing from a long way out in a muddling affair.

With three winter runs now completed, the six-year-old has a solid platform to attack a longer distance, while Tash Faithfull remains in the saddle after riding 16 winners at an ROI of 56% in July before opening August with a Broome double.

Stolen remains lightly raced and showed early promise with a slick Adelaide victory at start two, while her Belmont trial win leading into this campaign also suggested she is going well for her new connections.

Reliable Asset Maintenance Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 8 Delzee

The Northam debut on July 9 was hard to miss from Delzee, despite his lack of race experience being evident throughout that first race-day appearance.

Although the gelding did himself no favours by laying in, he still finished second when beaten a length by Dawn Dancer, who franked the form two days later by winning a late-season two-year-old race at Belmont.

We were then with the Summer Dickson-trained galloper for start two at Northam on July 23, where he remained over 1100m and recorded a comfortable victory despite again doing plenty wrong.

He may not have beaten much on paper, but his race was still completed more than four-and-a-half lengths faster than the 1100m maiden contested prior to his event.

While facing more seasoned rivals at Class 3 level, Delzee gives the impression he will continue to improve with racing, and barrier one provides this learning type with a rail to follow as he attempts to make it back-to-back victories.
