Belmont hosts an intriguing eight-race program this Saturday, June 27, with a competitive winter card featuring a mix of progressive gallopers, established performers and open handicaps.

Mrs Mac's Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Belmont Value Bet - Race 3 No. 4 Wubin Gold

The May 16 return was quite good, with Wubin Gold working home from an impossible position and recording the second-fastest last 200m of that BM78+.

She stepped up to 1400m second-up, and I'm willing to forgive the 10th-of-15 finish after the mare was unable to get galloping room from an inside draw, with a rival falling into her lap at a key stage before she was held up.

While there's a seven-furlong win to her name, she's more effective in the 1200m range, with four of her six career wins coming over this distance.

The latest came in winter last year at this grade at Belmont on a Heavy 9, while she's also won two of her four starts on Soft tracks.

Any rain could bring her right into contention, as does the slight drop back in grade, and Wubin Gold has always been at her best with room to her outside, so barrier six in a 10-horse field should work in her favour.

Belmont Best Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Deltason

Class was always going to take him a long way fresh, and perhaps Deltason wins that June 10 affair with a few more favours.

He was a well-backed favourite over 1200m and was forced to the worst part of the track when making late ground for second behind a leader who had the fitness edge and completely dictated the race.

Feltason can improve sharply second-up, with Laqdar Ramoly back in the saddle after partnering the gelding at all nine of his previous starts, including a second-up Belmont victory earlier this season.

While it wasn't a testing track, that was also his only appearance on soft ground.

An honest Listed effort followed, before he failed to run out a strong mile in the Group 2 WA Guineas prior to a spell, and on an each-way basis, Deltason appeals in the opening leg of the quaddie.

Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Antique Queen

She's still lightly raced for a rising six-year-old, is Antique Queen, who found 1400m too sharp via her May 23 resumption but got home nicely from back in the field with the fastest last 200m of the race.

She capitalised on that return seven days later when saluting second-up over a mile at Belmont.

When contesting 1650m here third-up on June 13, the daughter of Pierro had no luck after being badly held up in the straight.

Antique Queen now rises to 2100m, with her only previous attempt beyond 2000m resulting in a victory early last year.

She also has multiple Soft-track placings from her three-year-old season, which gives some confidence in the conditions despite never racing on a very testing track, while William Pike takes the reins aboard the Michael Grantham-trained galloper.

Liquor Barons Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Belmont Roughie - Race 7 No. 8 Ancient Guidance

Territory Man heads the market after landing the cash for us first-up on June 13 in a soft victory, although he did have every favour sitting close to a slow speed and is still a lightly raced horse with upside.

Monte Tremezzo is another worth respecting after being spelled following a stakes attempt in February before resuming with a runner-up finish behind the smart Bassett Hound.

If the rain arrives, Ancient Guidance could well firm from a big price, having never finished in the top three from eight attempts on Good tracks.

All of his best form has come on rain-affected ground, including his first-up third on a Heavy 10 after covering ground.

He should have finished closer second-up at Belmont, while last start he never settled and failed to finish off as a result of his keenness, although the sharp drop in the weights and any rain-affected conditions give him a genuine chance despite 1400m still being a query.
