Gold Coast Suns vs Richmond Tigers, Round 21 2025 - Expert Prediction

The Suns will be confident coming off a massive win against Brisbane last weekend. While previously this would have been a let down spot for them with finals within reaching distance, coach Damian Hardwick will be drilling into his team all week long that they cannot go into this game unprepared.

Richmond have surprised opposition teams this season with their resilience and ability to match up around the park. They have been unable to see things through for an entire match for the majority of the season, but if they are within striking distance and given a sniff, then watch out.

The Suns are superior in almost every metric with a big disparity in Inside 50’s, Richmond will struggle to mount any significant scoreboard pressure this time around.

With such a large line the main tip is to take Richmond to go Under their Team Total. Ben Long is the pick of the goal kickers, take his ladders. Matt Rowell to have 30 touches is another good pick.

  • The Tigers have averaged just 58 pts per game across their last 7 matches, staying under the 57.5 in 6 of them.
  • Matt Rowell had 28 disposals in his last game against Richmond, he is averaging 25.9 touches per game this season.
  • Rowell had 37 vs Brisbane last weekend and 30+ in 3 straight games.
  • Ben Long kicked 4 goals last weekend and 3 in the previous loss to the Tigers.

Head to Head

The Tigers upset Gold Coast in their matchup earlier this season 80-69 in Melbourne breaking a streak of 5 straight Suns victories. The head to head record is 5-3 since the start of the 2019 season.

The Under has hit in 6 of 8 clashes with the winning margin staying between 1-39 in all but the lone 2019 game. The Suns are 6-2 ATS.

The Suns pulled off a stunning 130-64 win over arch-rivals Brisbane in the Q-Clash last weekend.

Having won only 1 of the previous 12 matchups and needing the victory to stay in control of their own top 8 destiny they took total control in the second half of the game, blowing their opponents out of the water.

Their scoring from Stoppages was elite, 13 goals and 6 behinds with Jarrod Witts getting the job done against a two ruck opposition finishing with 48 hitouts and 5 clearances.

The Suns are still in a precarious position and can not afford to lose if they want to make their maiden finals berth.

Touk Miller could be included in the lineup if he passes a fitness test on his hamstring. Will Graham has spent half the season on the sidelines and is also a chance at returning this week, probably through the lower grades.

The Tigers held things together in the first half against the league leading Magpies last weekend but didn’t have the stamina to stay strong for the whole 4 quarters eventually falling 93-57.

It has been the story of the season for Richmond who are in the midst of a rebuild of their club. They have been in the fight for the first half of games but lack the composure, skill and direction to perform for all 4 quarters.

The veterans they still have left are trying their best to show the young kids what to do. Toby Nankervis finished with 31 hitouts and 18 disposals while Nick Vlastuin had 25 to his name.

Tim Taranto is listed as a test but is likely not to be risked with calf tightness. There are currently 16 players on the Tigers injury list with a chunk out for the season and a few not back to AFL level just yet.
