Gauff has only managed to win three matches since capturing her second Grand Slam title at the French Open in early June and was struggling considerably on serve during her last tournament in Montreal, where she fell victim to Victoria Mboko's stunning run to the title. The American leads the tour for double faults (293 this season) and the problem is enhanced when she's feeling down on confidence.

This opens the door for Yastremska to register her second win over Gauff after stunning the World No. 2 at Wimbledon a couple of months ago. The Ukrainian has been remarkably consistent this season and has won multiple matches at her last six tournaments - can she beat Gauff and make it seven in Cincinnati? I'm backing Yastremska to cover a +4.5 games line and she's good value outright too.

Gauff leads 3-1, but Yastremska has troubled her lately, going down in a 6-0 2-6 5-7 loss in Madrid before winning their opening round Wimbledon encounter in straights, 7-6 6-1.

Gauff comes into this showdown with a 34-11 record on the season, securing her second Grand Slam title at Roland Garros and rising to No. 2 in the world.

However, 18 of those wins came during the clay swing, where Gauff made the final of both Madrid and Rome before reigning supreme in Paris.

That little period has saved Gauff's season - she's gone 3-3 since departing the French Open, losing in the opening round of Wimbledon and going down in the quarter-finals of Montreal last week to rising star Mboko.

The 21-year-old hit 42 double faults in her three Montreal matches and still appeared shaky during her Cincinnati opener, where she toppled Wang Xinyu 6-3 6-2.

Gauff won the Cincinnati title in 2023, but hadn't been past the second round in her four other previous appearances before this tournament.

Yastremska has won just three less matches than Gauff in 2025, coming into this encounter with a 31-17 record on the year and 10 places below her career-high ranking of No. 21.

A former Australian Open semi-finalist, Yastremska has been extremely consistent throughout the season, reaching the third or fourth round at big events like the Australian Open, Dubai, Indian Wells, Roland-Garros, and Wimbledon.

The 25-year-old briefly went back to clay and made the semi-finals of Hamburg after Wimbledon, while she made the R16 in Montreal last week, beating Emma Navarro before going down to Elena Rybakina.

Yastremska has now won at least two matches in her last six tournaments and she got her Cincinnati campaign up and running by defeating Viktoriya Tomova 6–4, 2–6, 6–2.

Yastremska has won sets 6-0 and 6-1 over Gauff in their last two meetings and clearly enjoys this matchup.

Gauff has been struggling with double faults lately and she's lost early at Cincinnati in four of her five previous appearances. Seems like a great chance for Yastremska to post another upset.
