South Africa vs Angola Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Group B action at the AFCON gets underway as South Africa and Angola square off at the Stade de Marrakech on Monday.

South Africa deserved to be counted amongst the leading contenders to lift the AFCON trophy this tournament - they come into the competition as one of the best teams on the continent, comfortably qualifying for the 2026 World Cup and finishing third in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. With just one defeat across their last 11 internationals, Bafana Bafana are going to take some stopping over the next month. Meanwhile, Angola are also in decent form - they've only lost one of their last six games in all competitions and that was against reigning World Cup champions Argentina.

I don't think much separates these two sides at the moment, but South Africa are slightly stronger in my eyes and have the quality and firepower in attack to edge this. Angola's last four defeats have been by 1-0 or 2-0 scores, so they are tough to beat and rarely blown off the park. Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis looks good value to find the back of the net - he registered the second-most goal involvements in AFCON qualifying with six (two goals, four assists), while he was also on target for Bafana Bafana in a recent 3-1 friendly win over Zambia.
  • South Africa are unbeaten in their last 11 games in all competitions, winning three straight
  • Angola's last four defeats have featured Under 2.5 goals
  • Three of the last five meetings have produced Under 2.5 goals
  • Three of Angola's last four defeats have been by 2-0 scores
  • Oswin Appollis has registered a goal or assist in four of his last five starts for club and country

South Africa vs Angola Head To Head

Angola are unbeaten in the last seven meetings in all competitions between the teams, with South Africa's last victory coming back in 2015 World Cup qualifying.

South Africa Form Analysis

South Africa are aiming for their first AFCON trophy since entering the competition in 1996 and coming third in the 2023 edition.

Currently riding an 11-game unbeaten streak, Bafana Bafana are among the favourites to go all the way in Morocco over the next month.

Hugo Broos' side edged out Nigeria and Benin to finish top of their group to qualify for next year's World Cup, while they were utterly dominant in AFCON qualifying, going unbeaten as they scored a total of 16 goals - the second-most of any nation after Morocco.

South Africa come into this clash following back-to-back wins over Rwanda and Zambia in which they scored three goals, while they also edged out a Ghana B side in a pre-tournament friendly.

South Africa Team News

Oswin Appollis came off with a knock in that Ghana B friendly win, but has been given the all clear for this clash.

Angola Form Analysis

Angola are always a tough team to beat on the continental stage and head into AFCON hoping to build on their 2023 run to the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Nigeria.

The Palancas Negras finished on top of their group in AFCON qualifying, going unbeaten across their six matches and emerging ahead of favourites Ghana, who shockingly ended in last spot.

However, Angola couldn't forge a path into the World Cup, finishing fourth in a tough group that also included Cape Verde and Cameroon.

Patrice Beaumelle's side have warmed up for the AFCON with 3-2 and 4-1 wins over Zambia and Mozambique respectively.

Angola Team News

Zine Salvador has been ruled out of the tournament through injury, with Gelson Dala looking like the main threat up front after scoring four goals in the 2023 AFCON.
