Nigeria vs Morocco Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's shaping as a thrilling AFCON semi-final clash as hosts Morocco come up against an on-fire Nigeria side on Wednesday night in Rabat.

Morocco have been favourites to lift the trophy on home soil throughout the tournament, but this will be by far their toughest assignment. Nigeria have surprised at this AFCON after shockingly missing qualifying for this year's expanded World Cup, winning all five of their games with some blistering attacking football, heading into this showdown as the competition's top scorers with 14. Morocco meanwhile haven't been at their best, but they've got the job done and raised their level to dispatch Cameroon in the quarter-finals.

I tipped Morocco before the tournament got underway, but I'm switching sides now. I didn't expect Nigeria to be operating at this kind of level, but they're blitzing the field this tournament, with the likes of Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman leading the way up front. Morocco have played like they're under immense pressure (which they are) and they could come unstuck against the firepower of the Super Eagles. Nigeria are the value bet in this semi-final, with Osimhen backed to open the scoring and add to the four goals he's already bagged this competition.
  • Nigeria have won all five games at this AFCON
  • Nigeria are unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 games
  • Nigeria have scored 2+ goals in all five games this AFCON
  • Nigeria have made eight previous AFCON finals
  • Morocco have scored in 17 of their last 18 AFCON games
  • Morocco are unbeaten in their last 22 games
  • Victor Osimhem has scored 18 goals in his last 18 games, including four this AFCON

Nigeria vs Morocco Head To Head

These two teams have met 11 times since 1969, with Morocco holding a 6-4 record with one draw. This will be their first AFCON meeting since 2004, which Morocco won 1-0.

Nigeria Form Analysis

What a tournament it's been for Nigeria - they entered this AFCON with minimal expectations after suffering elimination to Congo DR in their World Cup qualifying playoff and with lots of question marks surrounding them.

However, the Super Eagles have been the standout side at the competition, becoming the only side to win all five matches on their way to the semi-finals.

Nigeria swept aside Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda in the group stage before going to another level in the knockout phase, keeping two clean sheets while remaining potent up front in 4-0 and 2-0 victories over Mozambique and Algeria in the R16 and quarter-finals respectively.

Victor Osimhem and Ademola Lookman have each scored four goals in a lethal attacking partnership up front.

Nigeria Team News

Big blow for Nigeria, with captain Wilfred Ndidi missing this semi-final through suspension.

Raphael Onyedika could come into the side after scoring two goals in the rotated team that beat Uganda in the group stage.

Bright Osayi-Samuel is also in some doubt after coming off late in the quarter-final victory over Algeria.

  • Goalkeepers: Stanley Nwabali (Chippa Utd), Amas Obasogie(Singida Black Stars), Francis Uzoho(Omonia)

  • Midfield: Alex Iwobi (Fulham), Frank Onyeka (Brentford), Wilfred Ndidi (Besiktas), Raphael Onyedika (Club Brugge), Tochukwu Nnadi (Zulte Waregem), Fisayo Dele-Bashiru (Lazio), Ebenezer Akinsanmiro (Pisa), Usman Muhammed (Ironi Tiberias)

  • Forwards: Chidera Ejuke (Sevilla), Akor Adams (Sevilla), Ademola Lookman (Atalanta), Samuel Chukwueze (Fulham), Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray), Moses Simon (Paris FC), Paul Onuachu (Trabzonspor), Cyriel Dessers (Panathinaikos), Salim Fago Lawal (Istra 1961).

Morocco Form Analysis

Morocco are aiming to reach just their third AFCON final after 1978 and 2004 - and now they stand within one victory of doing just that.

However, the hosts have noticeably been playing with increased pressure and the weight of expectation with their golden generation, which finished fourth at the 2022 World Cup and are widely backed to go all the way in their home AFCON.

The Atlas Lions drew with Mali and defeated Comoros and Zambia to emerge unscathed from the group stage before a narrow 1-0 win over Tanzania in the R16. Morocco raised their level in the quarter-finals against Cameroon, with Brahim Diaz and Ismael Saibari scoring either side of half-time.

Diaz has incredibly scored in all five games this AFCON and is now looking to become the first player in AFCON history to score in six different matches at a single competition.

Morocco Team News

Azzedine Ounahi continues to struggle with a calf injury, while Romain Saiss has been sidelined since the tournament opener against Comoros.
