Senegal and Egypt are set for a thrilling AFCON semi-final face-off in Tangier on Wednesday. Senegal enters the match with an impressive track record, having scored 11 goals and conceded only twice in prior games, positioning them as the favorites. Egypt, on the other hand, has had a more challenging journey, relying on timely goals and penalties, often just scraping through. Senegal's strong defense and offensive talents, including Sadio Mane with three assists, give them the edge. The recommendation is a low-scoring victory for Senegal.

Senegal vs Egypt Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

African heavyweights Senegal and Egypt square off for a place in the AFCON final on Wednesday in Tangier.

It's a blockbuster semi-final showdown and a rematch of the 2021 final, which Senegal edged on penalties. Senegal have certainly been the more impressive of the teams coming into this semi-final clash, scoring 11 goals in their five games and conceding only twice. Egypt meanwhile haven't been entirely convincing - they needed a stoppage time goal to beat Zimbabwe, a penalty against South Africa, drew with Angola and were forced into extra-time in the R16 against Benin, while they were also outshot 13-6 by Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals.

I'd say Egypt have been riding their luck for the bulk of this tournament and it will come to an end on Wednesday. Senegal are the No. 2 ranked African nation behind hosts Morocco and they've won 10 of their last 11 games against fellow African teams. Sadio Mane has been impressive with three assists and the veteran winger can make an impact again here. BTTS - No traditionally hits in games between these sides and with Senegal's strong defence, it's hard to see Egypt scoring - even if Mo Salah is determined to add to his four goals this competition. I'm backing a low-scoring victory for Senegal.
  • Both sides have won four of their five games this tournament
  • BTTS - No has landed in 14 of the 15 previous meetings between the teams
  • Senegal have only conceded two goals this tournament
  • Senegal have won 10 of their last 11 games vs African teams
  • Egypt have only kept a clean sheet in two of their last 11 games
  • Six of Senegal's last seven wins have been to nil
  • Senegal have won three of the last five meetings between the sides
  • Sadio Mane has registered three assists & one goal in five games this tournament
  • 1-0 has been a correct score in seven of the last 12 meetings between the sides

Senegal vs Egypt Head To Head

Senegal have won three of the last five encounters inside 90 minutes, including their most-recent clash in 2022, which saw them eliminate Egypt from the World Cup.

Senegal Form Analysis

It's been a solid tournament for Senegal heading into the semi-finals - they've been playing within themselves and now will be hoping to go to that required extra level for the remainder of the competition.

Senegal comfortably emerged from the group stage with 3-0 victories over Botswana and Benin, along with a 1-1 draw against Congo DR.

The Lions of Teranga eased past Sudan 3-1 in the R16 before edging out Mali 1-0 in the quarter-finals after their opponents were reduced to 10 men.

Pape Thiaw's side have only conceded two goals at the AFCON, while the goals are being shared around, with Nicolas Jackson, Pape Gueye and Cherif Ndiaye all scoring twice, while Sadio Mane has registered three assists.

Senegal Team News

Senegal have no injury concerns heading into the semi-finals.

Nicolas Jackson has been an unused substitute in two of the last three games and will be fighting for a starting spot, with Everton star Iliman Ndiaye scoring the winner against Mali.

Egypt Form Analysis

As mentioned, it hasn't been an entirely convincing tournament from Egypt, but at the end of the day, they've scripted a path into the semi-finals and now stand two wins from glory.

It's been a battle - Egypt pipped Zimbabwe with a stoppage-time winner in their opening group game before needing a penalty to edge past South Africa. The Pharaohs were also uninspiring in a dour 0-0 stalemate with Angola.

Hossam Hassan's side were forced to dig deep in a R16 win over Benin, prevailing 3-1 after extra-time before holding off Ivory Coast in a 3-2 thriller, where they withstood 13 shots from their opponents.

The seven-time AFCON champions will need to raise their level here - and Mo Salah is the man to inspire his nation, with the winger scoring four goals and in the race for the Golden Boot.

Egypt Team News

Defender Mohamed Hamdi remains sidelined after injuring his knee in the win over Benin in the R16.

Ahmed Fatouh replaced him in the quarter-finals against Ivory Coast, but scored an own goal and it remains to be seen if he retains his place in the starting side.
