Egypt faces Zimbabwe in their AFCON Group B opener, with high expectations placed on Egypt to begin their campaign with a win. As the most successful nation in AFCON history, Egypt is under pressure to secure their first title since 2010. Despite recent struggles, Egypt remains a formidable side, while Zimbabwe, having failed to score in most recent losses, is seen as a weaker opponent. Key player Trezeguet is in form and expected to lead Egypt to a routine victory, predicted at either 2-0 or 3-0.

Egypt vs Zimbabwe Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Egypt will be looking to get their AFCON campaign off to a winning start when they face Group B minnows Zimbabwe at the Stade Adrar in Agadir on Monday night.

Apart from host nation Morocco, no other nation at this year's Africa Cup of Nations are under more pressure than Egypt, who have won more continental championships than any other country - but have failed to hoist the AFCON silverware since 2010. Former manager Rui Vitória was sacked after Egypt suffered a shock R16 exit to Congo DR at the 2023 edition, with the pressure now firmly on current boss Hossam Hassan and star winger/captain Mo Salah, who is still searching for his first AFCON triumph after five previous disappointments. Zimbabwe are amongst the bottom of the betting favourites for this competition and aren't expected to offer much resistance in a strong group that also features South Africa and Angola.

Egypt haven't been at their best lately, but they've lost just three games in 2025 and are simply the far superior side here. Zimbabwe have failed to score in five of their last six defeats and struggled for goals through qualifying, so they aren't expected to create too many chances against a powerhouse side here. Former Aston Villa winger Trezeguet has scored the second-equal most goals in the local Egyptian Premier League this term - including three in his last two appearances - and was Egypt's top scorer in qualifying with four, so he looks the value bet to find the back of the net. Correct score backers should expect a routine win for Egypt - a 2-0 or 3-0 triumph looks the goods.
  • Egypt have won the last six meetings between the teams
  • Egypt are unbeaten in 13 of their 16 games this year
  • Zimbabwe have lost four of their last six games
  • Zimbabwe have failed to score in five of their last six defeats
  • Egypt have scored exactly two goals in their last two wins
  • Zimbabwe have lost 2-0 vs South Africa & Burkina Faso since June
  • Trezeguet was Egypt's top scorer in AFCON qualifying with four
  • Trezequet has scored three goals in his last two games for club side Al Ahly

Egypt vs Zimbabwe Head to Head

Egypt are unbeaten in the last nine meetings between the teams and have won the last six on the bounce. The Pharaohs emerged 1-0 winners in the most-recent clash at the 2019 AFCON group stage.

Egypt Form Analysis

Egypt have won half of their 16 games in 2016, going unbeaten in 13 and coming off a warm-up 2-1 victory over Nigeria last week.

The Pharaohs are the most successful nation in AFCON history, winning the trophy on seven occasions - but they've haven't emerged triumphant since 2010. All eyes will be on Mo Salah, who is captaining his country for the third consecutive AFCON, but has been enduring a turbulent time at Liverpool as he looks to cement his legacy as one of Africa's best ever footballers at this tournament.

Egypt conceded just two goals in AFCON qualifying as they cruised to top their group, while they also leaked just two goals in World Cup qualifying, going unbeaten and winning eight of their 10 games.

Egypt Team News

No fresh injury concerns for Egypt, with the likes of Omar Marmoush - who hasn't been playing much for Man City this season - and Mostafa Mohamed jostling for a spot up front alongside the likes of Salah and Trezegeut.

Zimbabwe Form Analysis

Zimbabwe are returning to the AFCON after missing the 2023 tournament due to interference from their government led to a ban from FIFA.

It hasn't been a great year for the Warriors - they've won just two of their last 17 games, but one of those did come recently in a warm-up game over Qatar as they prevailed 2-1.

However, overall, Zimbabwe haven't been too impressive - they battled their way through AFCON qualifying, finishing second in their group, while they were horrendous in World Cup qualifying, finishing bottom of the group, winless in 10 games and losing to the likes of Rwanda and Lesotho.

That run of results led to the sacking of Michael Nees last month, with Mario Marinica stepping into the managerial role for this competition.

Zimbabwe Team News
