Algeria is set to begin its pursuit of a third Africa Cup of Nations title, facing Sudan in Group E. Algeria, a tournament favorite, will rely on its strong form, led by stars like Riyad Mahrez and forward Mohamed Amoura, to secure victory. Sudan, appearing under challenging circumstances due to a civil war, is an underdog in the group, lacking offensive strength. Algeria's current unbeaten streak and superior attack suggest a likely clear win. Betting options are available for this eagerly anticipated match-up.

Algeria vs Sudan Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Algeria begin their quest for a third Africa Cup of Nations trophy when they come up against Sudan in Group E action in Rabat on Wednesday.

One of the favourites to emerge with the silverware at this year's AFCON, Algeria will be targeting a smooth passage into the knockout stages after being grouped with Sudan, Burkina Faso and Equatorial Guinea. However, Les Fennecs won't be taking anything for granted considering they actually haven't won an AFCON match since defeating Senegal in the 2019 final, failing to advance from the group in five of the last seven editions. Meanwhile, the mere fact Sudan are competing at AFCON is a miraculous achievement when you consider the ongoing civil war in the country, which meant the Falcons of Jediane had to play all of their qualifying games on the road.

Sudan will fight hard, but there's an overwhelming gulf of class between these teams on the pitch, with Algeria equipped with immense attacking firepower, led by Riyad Mahrez and in-form Wolfsburg striker Mohamed Amoura. Sudan have struggled for goals and clearly lack some punch in the final third, so backing a comfortable win to nil for Algeria, with Amoura continuing his electric goalscoring form by finding the back of the net once again for his country.
  • Algeria are on a 16-match unbeaten streak inside 90 minutes
  • Algeria have prevailed by a 2+ goal margin in 13 of their last 14 victories
  • Sudan are 118th in the FIFA rankings and have just one win from their last 11 games
  • Sudan have failed to score in eight of their last 11 games
  • Sudan have failed to score in their last three AFCON opening games
  • Mohamed Amoura led the goalscoring charts with 10 in World Cup qualifying, while the striker also has six goals for Wolfsburg this season in the Bundesliga
  • Since September, Algeria have scored exactly three goals against the likes of Zimbabwe, Somalia and Botswana - teams of a similar quality to Sudan

Algeria vs Sudan Head To Head

Sudan actually have a solid record against Algeria, going unbeaten in five of the last eight meetings between the nations. The two teams met as recently as the Arab Cup last month, with the spoils shared in a 0-0 stalemate.

Algeria Form Analysis

Unbeaten in their last 16 games (inside 90 minutes), Algeria enter the AFCON as one of the form nations on the continent and a top contender to go all the way.

Vladimir Petkovic’s side were dominant in both World Cup and AFCON qualifying - they topped the former group by seven points, scoring a whopping 24 goals, which was second behind Ivory Coast, while they also finished eight points ahead of Equatorial Guinea in AFCON qualifying.

Algeria were most recently in action during the Arab Cup, where they defeated the likes of Bahrain and Iraq before being knocked out in the quarter-finals by the UAE on penalties.

Sudan Form Analysis

Sudan are competing at the AFCON for just the second time in the last seven editions and, realistically, will be hoping to battle it out with Burkina Faso and Equatorial Guinea for a spot in the knockout phase from Group E.

It was an incredible effort for Sudan to qualify for the AFCON - they secured their spot behind Angola by edging out Niger and Ghana in what was one of the toughest groups.

However, James Kwesi Appiah's side couldn't replicate the feat in World Cup qualifying, finishing third in another tough group that featured Senegal and Congo DR.

It's been a tough recent run of form for Sudan - they've won just one of their last 11 games, coming into this clash following back-to-back Arab Cup defeats to Iraq and Bahrain.
