The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations returns to the global stage with one of the deepest and most competitive fields in tournament history.
Hosted in Morocco, AFCON 2025 brings together 24 nations fighting for continental supremacy in a competition known for its unpredictability, intensity and dramatic knockout football.
As for the favourites, defending champions Ivory Coast headline the contenders after lifting the trophy on home soil in 2023. They’ll be pushed hard by Senegal, the 2021 champions led by a golden generation still packed with experience, while host nation Morocco enter as one of the most balanced squads in the tournament after their historic 2022 World Cup semifinal run.
Egypt, AFCON’s most decorated nation, can never be discounted, especially with Mohamed Salah spearheading their attack. Nigeria and Algeria also shape as dangerous opponents capable of producing deep knockout runs.
The star power on show is stronger than ever. Victor Osimhen, Mohamed Salah, Achraf Hakimi, Riyad Mahrez, Serhou Guirassy, Nicolas Pépé, Yassine Bounou, Sofyan Amrabat, and André Onana headline a long list of world-class African talents set to light up the tournament.
