Racecrowds Set To Return In Darwin
Race crowds will be welcomed back to Darwin as soon as this Saturday, the NT News Reports.
Via a letter sent to members, CEO of the Darwin Turf Club Brad Morgan explains that the Saturday June 6 meeting from the Top End will be run in front of a crowd.
“...we’re excited to welcome you back trackside again on June 6,” Morgan wrote.
“We also have a full staff back on board who are working hard to bring this year’s Great Northern Darwin Cup Carnival to life.
“Even more exciting, the new public stand is coming along nicely, due to open in early July, and our brand-new Silks Darwin venue will open from 12pm on June 5."
Morgan also addresses the speculation and talk regarding the facilities at the Fannie Bay Racecourse, which most notably includes the new $12 million taxpayer-funded grandstand.
“As you have seen over the last few months, our new facilities are nearing completion,” Morgan wrote.
“However COVID-19 has placed some significant challenges across the business which has seen a direct impact upon our members.
“We appreciate your understanding during this difficult period and I personally would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and support of the Club."
Darwin will become the first Australian track in Australia to welcome back crowds as travel restrictions are also set to ease in the Northern Territory from June 15.
This comes before the the July 4 start of the Darwin Racing Carnival that culminates in the running of the $200,000 Darwin Cup on Monday, August 3.
