The final field has been assembled for the 2026 Golden Eagle, with 18 runners set to contest the $10 million Group 1 over 1500m at Royal Randwick on Saturday, October 31.

Star mare Sheza Alibi (barrier 6) heads a strong field of four-year-olds as the Golden Eagle prepares for its second running at Randwick following the move from Rosehill in 2025.

The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained favourite will be partnered by Luke Nolen, having finished a short-head second to Land Legend in the Group 1 Might And Power Stakes at Caulfield after previously defeating Autumn Boy in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington.

Chris Waller has four runners in the field, including Beiwacht (barrier 10), who will be ridden by Nash Rawiller after finishing third behind Apocalyptic and Skyhook in the Listed Silver Eagle over 1300m at Randwick, having opened his campaign with a three-length Group 1 Memsie Stakes victory at Caulfield.

Autumn Boy (barrier 5) is another leading chance for Waller, with Zac Purton booked to ride the Rosehill Guineas winner, who finished seventh in the Epsom Handicap after chasing home Sheza Alibi in the Makybe Diva Stakes.

Waller's remaining runners are Mr Miller (barrier 9), who will be partnered by Zac Lloyd, and Estremo (barrier 17), with Sam Clipperton aboard.

Skyhook (barrier 16) represents Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou with Chad Schofield booked to ride, having won the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes and Shannon Stakes before finishing a narrow second to Apocalyptic in the Silver Eagle.

Michael Freedman's Apocalyptic (barrier 18) will be partnered by Tommy Berry after defeating Skyhook by a short neck in the Silver Eagle, while stablemate Decorum (barrier 14) has Tim Clark aboard following two victories earlier this preparation.

Ciaron Maher has accepted with Irish import Amazing Journey (barrier 15), who will be ridden by Saffron Osborne, adding an international element to the field.

Joe Pride's Attica (barrier 7) will be partnered by Regan Bayliss, while Within The Law (barrier 3) represents Bjorn Baker and Rachel King.

The remaining runners include Regal Award (barrier 4) for Phillip and Tommy Stokes, Brave Monarch (barrier 8) for Chris and Corey Munce, and Platinum Pantheon (barrier 2) for New Zealand trainer Lisa Latta.

Kris Lees has two runners in Rivellino (barrier 12) and Night Agent (barrier 13), while Barrengarry (barrier 1) lines up for Joseph Ible and Alysha Collett, and Federalist (barrier 11) represents the Hawkes stable with Tyler Schiller aboard.

With Sheza Alibi dominating early betting, several established Group 1 winners and a strong contingent emerging from the Silver Eagle, the final barrier draw will add another important dimension to Saturday's $10 million showdown at Randwick.

The Golden Eagle History

The Golden Eagle has rapidly established itself as a major feature of the Australian spring carnival, offering the country's leading four-year-olds a lucrative opportunity to compete while encouraging connections to race their best horses beyond their three-year-old seasons.

Introduced in 2019, the 1500m contest was originally staged at Rosehill Gardens, which hosted the first six editions before the race shifted to Royal Randwick in 2025 as part of changes to Racing NSW's spring racing program.

Exclusively for four-year-olds, The Golden Eagle was created to provide a major target for horses progressing from their three-year-old campaigns, with its $10 million prizemoney placing it among the richest races on the Australian calendar.

The race has already built an impressive honour roll, beginning with inaugural winner Kolding in 2019, followed by Colette (2020), I'm Thunderstruck (2021), I Wish I Win (2022), Japanese visitor Obamburumai (2023), Lake Forest (2024) and unbeaten mare Autumn Glow (2025).

Although still relatively young compared to Australia's traditional spring features, The Golden Eagle has quickly gained prestige through its substantial prizemoney, four-year-old eligibility and ability to attract high-class Australian and international runners.
