Philadelphia Eagles vs Kansas City Chiefs Game Preview as well as who we think will be
MVP of Super Bowl LIX.
First Touchdown Scorer of Super Bowl LIX - Philadelphia Eagles
There is no doubt in my mind that Philadelphia’s offence is going to be run-centric. They averaged the 2nd highest number of Rush Yards per game this season and of the 53 Touchdowns they scored, 29 came on the ground. Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts accounted for 27 of those rushing touchdowns and it is here we find our best two picks.
Kansas ranked 22nd on the season in opponent rush yards and ranked 19th in Opponent Rushing Touchdown Percentage 38.1%.
On the season Saquon Barkley scored the first touchdown for Philadelphia on 6 occasions, all 6 times they were also the first TD of the game. Jalen Hurts scored first on 5 occasions with 3 of those TD’s being the first of the game. Philly scored the first TD in 75% of their games this season. Worth noting is that Jalen Hurts scored the first TD on the first drive of the game in Super Bowl LVII vs Kansas City.
Given the numbers you are well within your rights to bet both of these players to score first. Saquon is more likely to score from a long breakaway run whilst Hurts will most likely get the opportunity for a short run or tush-push if the Eagles have a play close to the line.
First Touchdown Scorer of Super Bowl LIX - Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs have a number of offensive weapons at their disposal for this season defining game. Not only is Patrick Mahomes in scintillating form but their core of receivers and runners are peaking at exactly the right time to make another push for glory.
It is difficult to predict how this team will structure their offence but there are clear trends we can pick up on to try and sway the favour our way when picking a first TD scorer. Kareem Hunt has scored the first TD for Kansas 5 times this season including in both the Divisional Round and Conference Championship. All 5 times he scored first it was also the first TD of the game. There is a catch though - apart from Mahomes scrambling for a TD in week 16, those 5 scores were the only ones from a RB this season.

10 times a WR has scored first for the Chiefs this season with Xavier Worthy having the highest number of receiving scores at 4. This hints at the Chiefs making sure they keep their opponents guessing by sharing the love around. Philadelphia rank 1st in opposition passing yards per game but did allow 65.79% of opposing Touchdowns through the air this season. Worth noting is that Kansas City have scored first in only 1 of their 4 Super Bowl appearances in the Mahomes/Reid era via a Patrick Mahomes rush in Super Bowl LIV.
You definitely need to have some coverage on Hunt given the recent trends but Xavier Worthy and the ever reliable Travis Kelce are definitely plays we will be making.
Anytime Touchdown Scorers for Super Bowl LIX
The bookies have set the total at 48.5 which means we are likely to see around 6 touchdowns in the game. If we follow the narrative that it will be a close game that means there is a high chance that there will be roughly 3 scorers from each team.
Looking at Philly we can assume that Saquon and or Hurts get theirs on the ground but if it comes to them having to go through the air then we like Dallas Goedert, he is highly efficient in his receptions and saw a heap of targets last game v Washington. AJ Brown would be the second option.

From Kansas City’s viewpoint we have a much larger pool of players to work with given their penchant for sharing the ball around. DeAndre Hopkins has not seen much ball the last two games and hasn’t scored in 2025. Marquise Brown is averaging 5.5 targets in his 4 games and is yet to score, that opportunity could arise here with the relative unknown of how the Chiefs use him in routes being his advantage.
