NFL Super Bowl LIX Philadelphia Eagles vs Kansas City Chiefs MVP Predictions
Super Bowl 59 is approaching and the MVP is always a hot topic and picking the player that is going to stand up on the world’s biggest stage is one of the greatest feats one can achieve when betting on the biggest sporting event in the world.
Some say it is a quarterback’s award, and they are right, however, not with as much weight as one would think. Looking at the last 20 years, the winning quarterback has won the award 13 times, but to be honest, I thought it would have been more. Below is a quick breakdown of the positional winners since Super Bowl 39.
Position of the past 20 Super Bowl MVP Winners
- 13 Quarterbacks
- 5 Wide Receivers
- 2 Linebackers
Here is a breakdown of the top three contenders for the Super Bowl MVP and you can follow the links to read the full Super Bowl Game Preview and Prediction and also bets.com.au’s First Touchdown & Anytime Touchdown picks.
1) Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
This list obviously has to start with the player that has taken the honours in the past two Super Bowls and is a three-time winner of the award.
The Chiefs do not win this game if Mahomes doesn’t do what Mahomes does in the Super Bowl. In his three winning appearances in the Super Bowl, the Kansas QB has thrown at least two touchdown passes and completed at an average of 71.2% for 267 yards per game.
However, these impressive stats are, that is not why Mahomes has won the award. It is his situational play and superhuman powers he has when the game is on the line and his ability to come back from a deficit while the whole world is watching.

2) Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles
Jalen Hurts is strategically placed as the second player in this article because even though he is the third favourite for the award our opinion is here that he could be the statistical key to the Eagles ruining the three-peat for the Chiefs.
With all of the attention on Saquon Barkley, things could very easily open up for Jalen Hurts in the air and on the ground.
There has been plenty of talk about Hurts poor passing stats this season but it is not proportional. Mahomes averages 52 more passing yards per game, however he throws the ball 12 more times per game and both players have a very similar completion percentage.
As we saw in the Conference Final, Hurts can sling it and find his receivers if need be, especially if his opposition is going to play man coverage. Hurts is also going to find space with his feet using Barkley as a decoy, and will then have a run/pass option.
This Super Bowl could very well see the biggest performance by Jalen Hurts in his career.

3) Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles
Saquon Barkley will be looking to become the first running back to take the award since Terrell Davis had 3 TDs, 157 yards on 30 carries in Super Bowl 32. Coincidently, it is Terrell Davis’s single season total yards record (regular season + playoffs) that Barkley will break with 30 more rushing yards in the Super Bowl.
Barkley has had an MVP season and it would only be fitting that he wins the Super Bowl MVP if the Eagles are to win. The Eagles running back has already rushed for 442 yards in the postseason, breaking for a minimum of 118 yards per game. He has 5 touchdowns and has broken for 78 yards and 60 yards in his past two games.
If the Eagles are to get the victory over the Chiefs, Barkley is going to play an integral part in the offence. The only reason why he is ranked third in this write up is that he may do all of the unseen work that isn’t going to win you the award. Barkley’s season grants attention and he may be used heavily in play action and potentially not be seen as much on the stat sheet as in his three earlier postseason performances.
