Day two of Warrnambool’s iconic May Carnival, on May 6, 2026, promises thrilling jumps features and flat racing. The highlight is the Listed Wangoom Handicap and the $150,000 Galleywood Hurdle, with strong fields throughout. Top tips include Oliveranotherday (Race 8) as the best bet, Omamori (Race 10) and Boltsaver (Race 7) for each-way value, and Koratora (Race 9) as the roughie. The key recommendation: back these picks for a potentially profitable day at the races, especially if conditions turn wet.

TAB Maiden Plate Tips (Race 5)

Warrnambool Favourite - Race 5 No. 6 Shoma

Although disappointing second-up last start, it's well worth respecting that single-figure starting price of Shoma in the Listed Morphettville Guineas.

He was sound prior to that when kicking off his Australian career in a Sandown maiden as a beaten favourite.

Anything resembling that effort would make him very hard to beat here, while still maiden-eligible, with some decent New Zealand form references.

All placings have come on rain-affected tracks, including a Group 1 third on a Heavy 9 in November before coming to Australia.

Gun hoop Nash Rawiller takes the reins, which is his first of three engagements for the Busuttin & Young stable over Wednesday and Thursday.

Sinclair Wilson BM70 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Warrnambool Value Bet - Race 7 No. 12 Boltsaver

There'd still be many reeling from his defeat in last year's Warrnambool carnival, a race he seemingly had on toast.

Although, to be fair, that form through the winner Persian Spirit has stood up superbly.

Persian Spirit saluted three times earlier this season in much stronger company, and was also stakes placed on New Year's Eve.

The set-up here is fine, with Boltsaver running well at a big price first-up at Caulfield when covering ground and having since been back to the jump-outs.

Boltsaver caught the eye in that April 27 heat, and he has excellent heavy-track credentials, with two wins and three placings, and his only top-three miss on heavy ground was a fifth when running the second-fastest closing sectionals of a Randwick BM78 last winter.

The Midfield Group Wangoom Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Warrnambool Best Bet - Race 8 No. 14 Oliveranotherday

Arguably the most interesting runner over the entire carnival is Oliveranotherday.

An exciting three-year-old who showed above-average ability in his first campaign and has come on from that with a hat-trick to open his 2026 account.

He comfortably handled the rise in grade last time out via a two-length victory on a Soft 7 at Caulfield.

This is a whole new test at Listed level against more seasoned campaigners, but the placement from a local stable is worth trusting.

They have kept this three-and-a-half-week space between runs pattern going rather than heading to the Adelaide carnival, which many expected, and drawing out doesn't appear to be an issue on a chopped-up circuit for a versatile youngster.

Brolec Electrical BM66 Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Warrnambool Roughie - Race 9 No. 14 Koratora

She's understandably a big price early, arriving off a first-up failure in Adelaide.

However, it's worth noting that Koratora was also badly beaten in her only other prior appearance on good ground.

That suggests an astute Travis Doudle is looking for a wet track now with the daughter of Toronado, who recorded two big Soft 7 wins last winter, which followed a return second on a Heavy 8.

Koratora looked at the end of the prep when stepping up for a Saturday BM62 on August 23.

Her trial work leading into her April 18 return was sound, and Will Price takes back the reins, a jockey who is striking at 30% for the Travis Doudle yard this season, while blinkers replace winkers here.

The Whalers Hotel BM66 Handicap Tips (Race 10)

Warrnambool Next Best Bet - Race 10 No. 9 Omamori

His sole finish out of the money on rain-affected ground was a debut sixth, which he improved from with a hat-trick of placings before bolting in over a similar distance on September 4.

That was his only time on a Heavy track, while a BM62 victory followed before the prep culminated when safely held at Sandown when returning to good ground.

This prep seems to have been about peaking towards this, having been allowed to find his feet early before working through the line nicely fresh.

A 3kg apprentice was engaged second-up, and after a slow getaway in a fast-run race, he was doing his best work late at Sale second-up.

Nash Rawiller is now aboard, and with underfoot conditions to suit, this could be when the peak performance comes for Omamori.
