Ascot Best Bet - Race 2 No. 1 Jimmy Angel

While he's had chances with 11 prior race-day appearances, Jimmy Angel has only contested four maidens in that period.

Many of his other outings have been in stronger company, including the last-start third on April 22.

That form that was franked last Wednesday when the runner-up, Xentaro, saluted comfortably, while Quokka Rocka, who took out that April 22 event, wasn't disgraced last Saturday.

Prior to that, the three-year-old placed despite a wide run when resuming on April 3.

Now to 1400m with a low draw at the disposal of veteran hoop Shaun O'Donnell, Jimmy Angel won't get a better chance to breakthrough than here.

Ascot Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 4 Hedawood

This Luke Fernie-trained galloper was very competitive throughout his first campaign, backing up a debut triumph at Belmont to finish runner-up at his next two appearances.

He then caught the eye when fourth in a decent Ascot affair on November 1, and was a notable drifter in the market via a sixth-of-12 finish before a break.

Hedawood resumed at 1000m on April 22, a trip that's short of his best, but got home with the third-fastest last 200m of that meeting when placed.

The form through that quinella reads quite well, with Baby Pearl and Nonesospicy both lightly raced and each prior Saturday winners.

Also, the extra furlong second-up looks ideal for Hedawood.

Quayclean Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Ascot Value Bet - Race 7 No. 5 Strapping Prophet

Although he couldn't progress in his second campaign, Strapping Prophet was still competitive throughout that four-run period earlier in the season, placing on three occasions.

And there's time for him to turn the corner, being a lightly raced four-year-old with just seven starts.

He showed above-average ability in his first campaign when saluting in style at start two in a Northam maiden.

Strapping Prophet should have rounded out that last winter campaign with a Bunbury Saturday victory before a break.

1400m is a good starting point, and he appears forward enough fresh, arriving here off two 1000m Belmont trials.
