Sunshine Coast Tips October 9

Matland Group BM70 Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Sunshine Coast Value Bet - Race 2 No. 10 Golden Smile

The British-bred Golden Smile has been racing well without winning this preparation, including when runner-up at this venue last time.

Making her first appearance at the Sunshine Coast, the mare raced prominently when contesting a Class 2 Handicap over this course and distance on a Good 4 surface, finishing just under one-and-a-half lengths from the winner.

That form has already produced a subsequent winner, with eighth-placed Quality Miss scoring at Gatton last week.

The prospect of remaining on rain-affected ground holds no concerns for the daughter of Sea The Stars, who has demonstrated an affinity for Soft conditions in the past.

While the wide barrier is far from ideal, Daniel Moor retains the ride after partnering her last time and Golden Smile looks value to provide trainer Kris Lees with a winner from his only runner on the card.

PISA BM68 Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Sunshine Coast Best Bet - Race 4 No. 3 Oohlalouvre

Oohlalouvre is a regular at this venue, with 12 of her 20 previous starts having come on the Sunshine Coast turf course.

Those appearances have yielded two wins, with both victories coming this season, including over this distance two weeks ago.

Racing on a Soft 6 surface, the mare got home by a narrow margin in a BM65 after jumping from barrier five, continuing an excellent preparation in which she has finished in the top three at all four starts.

While the form from that latest contest has not been fully tested, the runner-up subsequently filled the same position at the Gold Coast, and Oohlalouvre has previously placed in stronger company at this venue.

An inside barrier is another positive and, with Taylor Marshall retaining the ride, the pair look capable of recording back-to-back victories for trainer Jack Bruce.

Sunshine Coast Roughie - Race 5 No. 11 Ultimate Outcome

Ultimate Outcome has made two starts since returning from more than a year away from the track, beginning with an encouraging performance at this venue.

Racing over 1200m on a Soft 7, the gelding produced a good effort to finish fourth in Class 3 company, beaten just over two-and-a-half lengths despite starting at triple-figure odds.

The son of Impending then stepped up to 1300m at Toowoomba, where he again performed with credit in finishing sixth, and he should have derived further fitness from those two outings.

The seven-year-old is a previous course winner and, while a track upgrade would aid his chances, that encouraging first-up fourth showed he is also capable of performing on rain-affected ground.

Adam Barling’s representative has his best barrier allocation of the preparation and, with the rise to 1400m also looking suitable, he is capable of surprising at big odds under Anthony Allen.

Kawana RSL Sub Branch Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Sunshine Coast Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 2 Caishen

Caishen has demonstrated his ability to handle wet conditions, finishing in the top three on Soft ground in both starts since returning from a break.

The most recent of those efforts came over 1400m at this venue two weeks ago, when the gelding finished third in 0-60 company after jumping from an inside alley.

The five-year-old tracked the early speed on that occasion and was beaten two-and-a-half lengths, with similar tactics likely to be adopted stepping into a Class 1 event.

Cejay Graham reunites with the son of Written Tycoon for the first time since the pair finished fourth at Ipswich in July, while the rise in distance should pose no concern given his previous form over further.

The Chris and Corey Munce stable has been racing well in the main of late, and with Caishen arriving fit and in consistent form, he looks capable of registering another victory in Friday night’s finale.
