Munday Construction & Civil Super Maiden Tips (Race 2)
Port Macquarie Roughie - Race 2 No. 8 Qui Rouge
Outside of a plain two-run campaign earlier this year, Qui Rouge hasn't done much wrong, with the five-year-old mare arriving at this maiden having placed in four of her 10 starts.
She opened this preparation with consecutive thirds, making ground on each occasion, including at Grafton on September 7 when she was well respected in the market as a $4 chance.
There was also merit to her third-up effort when remaining at Grafton on September 21, as she drew wide and never really came into calculations before making some late inroads without threatening, which is a performance that can be forgiven.
A lower draw should allow Liam Riordan to have her closer in the run this time, while after starting at single-figure odds in all three appearances this campaign, $30+ is available in early markets.
Qui Rouge was runner-up in her only previous appearance at Port Macquarie over this distance when attempting to lead throughout behind Star Prediction, who subsequently won a Taree Class 1 before narrowly missing in a Highway at Canterbury, and with race fitness and a more favourable setup, she looks a huge price.
Birdon Group Port Macquarie Sprint Tips (Race 6)
Port Macquarie Best Bet - Race 6 No. 10 Canal
Canal remains a work in progress for the Paul Snowden stable, with the son of Lonhro often his own worst enemy through tardy beginnings despite clearly possessing his share of ability.
That was evident first-up when he broke through on stable debut at Port Macquarie on July 31, overcoming another slow getaway to justify a short odds-on quote with a dominant 2.5-length maiden victory.
He again gave away ground at the start when stepping into a Beaumont Newcastle Class 1 on August 25 but launched late to score by two lengths over Nafanua, which earned him a metropolitan BM70 opportunity at the Gold Coast on September 19.
The winning run ended there, but he lost few admirers in finishing third behind Berezka, with runner-up Strada Varenna and fourth-placed Mercian subsequently filling the quinella of a BM70 at Eagle Farm, while Berezka had completed a double after winning impressively at the Gold Coast in late August, and Dark Arts has also been metropolitan competitive around that form.
Dropping back to an open country sprint with 3.5kg less looks ideal, while Ben Looker regains the ride after partnering Canal in his first-up Port Macquarie win and has combined strongly with Snowden over the past 12 months, giving the quirky four-year-old every chance to make his class count.
Carlton Dry Port Macquarie Cup Tips (Race 7)
Port Macquarie Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 4 Cavalry Man
This shapes as one of the more open country cups you will see, with an even early market reflecting the depth of Friday’s $200,000 feature over 2000m, and Cavalry Man might be the safest way to lean on an each-way basis.
The Lindsay Gough-trained grey has raced particularly well around a couple of genuine excuses, including covering ground at Doomben two starts before his latest success, while an earlier July 11 defeat at the same circuit came after he was taken on in the run.
His Ipswich Cup effort was also better than the bare result after he was caught wide throughout, before bouncing back into the winner’s stall in the Toowoomba Cup on September 26 with a sustained wide run to score by just over a length.
Only half a kilo higher from that latest victory and facing a race of similar strength, Cavalry Man again gets Jace McMurray aboard, with the pair building a strong association and capable of pushing forward from the wide draw.
Don Diego De Vega is one to include at a big price if he can spike fresh despite coming off a failed campaign, while Creative Righteous is a huge quaddie inclusion rising in grade after putting together consistent form through the local lead-ups and drawing kindly.

Port Macquarie Value Bets - Race 8 No. 5 Get Some Fun & No. 11 Vltava
Two runners make some appeal in the finale on Friday’s Port Macquarie Cup program, with Get Some Fun available at a big price and Vltava more respected in the market despite a plain Highway effort at Rosehill last start.
Vltava was a little one-paced there, although that came after doing plenty of work to win first-up at Muswellbrook on September 8 when he sprinted sharply to take out a BM58 in style.
He was still far from disgraced at Rosehill in a race that was not run to suit and now has that 1500m run under the belt, having been a good pickup for the Joel Wilkes stable after a four-run first preparation earlier this year, highlighted by a second-up Super Maiden victory at Newcastle before he arguably should have gone back-to-back in a Class 1 at Wyong.
There is some class and tactical versatility there, and if the track pattern allows connections to ride him a little colder on Friday, he is capable of bouncing straight back.
Get Some Fun is the bigger-priced runner to include after producing her best effort of the preparation when third at Bowraville last start, bringing a strong fitness base and an excellent Port Macquarie record of two wins, two placings and a fourth from six appearances, with her only finish outside the top four at this circuit coming in a strongly run Country Championships Qualifier in February last year.
